It was 1 in a series of 6 and he covered what he needed to in the first of the series. People can still feel anxious. I'd expect them to be much less anxious after the 6th is given if he covers 6 speeches worth of new content.

I agree....and I'm WILLING, as flippin' dirt poor as I am, to donate more $$ to FR if it means we can stay up and running.
I'm not kidding.

I guess he pretty much blew it. He didn't call himself a "true conservative" or say "nuke the towel heads" once.

I thought it was the amount of traffic that made FR inaccessable. I heard the first part of the speech and then the crisis lines started ringing.

It is very big news. I am shocked the media is not reporting this. They expected partial sovereignty not full. They are so blinded by bias that they are missing it completely. Either that, or they are waiting for the NY Times to tell them what to think about it.

CARLISLE, Pa. (AP) -- President Bush, trying to dispel rising doubts about the war, declared Monday night the United States would stay in Iraq until it was free and democratic, but he also said insurgents probably would become "more active and more brutal" and suggested more U.S. soldiers might have to be sent.
He said that the United States would keep its troop level at the current 138,000 as long as necessary but that commanders were constantly reassessing needs. "If they need more troops, I will send them," Bush pledged.

There are difficult days ahead and the way forward may sometimes appear chaotic," he said.

I'm afraid the media missed the most important thing that Bush said. You're absolutely right. I missed it too! Excellent! Changes my perspective considerably.

(John Kerry's been AWOL for two decades on issues of National Security!)
I think President Bush's speech was good. Don't have cable so I had to listen to it, and it struck me that his words were the words of History.
His advisors should understand that the American people need to be kept in the loop by the President himself (periodically) especially during times of War.
I think President Bush has immense faith in the American people, as he should, but I think he may forget that War creates insecurities that need to be addressed from time to time by the President himself.
It speaks to his immense character that he has this faith in us, and the stark contrast between him and his predecessor (sp?) never loses its saliency and impact. He's full of strength and goodness, and he's the first President I've ever prayed for and will continue to do so.
