Don't know, but if not would the subject be..."Pew: Ten Times More Journalists Are Liberal Than Conservative"? ;-)

There is little for press journalism to write about in the Norman Rockwell world. Why anyone would want to be a published journalist at all is kind of mysterious except that it is is possible to become famous by getting the goods on a crooked conservative politician. Nobody cares about a crooked liberal politician.

I think that the ratio would be higher if some of those who profess to be "moderate", truthfully described themselves as "liberal".

True--they're a dime a dozen. They'd rather go after the (more) endangered species.

[ Five times more national outlet journalists identify themselves as liberal, 34 percent, than conservative, a mere 7 percent ]

Would a LIBERAL LIE about this..?

In 1995 I think it was 97% were liberals. maybe back then they were more HONEST..

That is so true -- if they are moderate, then I am so far right I am about to drop off!

This is way too low.

Ask 10 of the most flaming liberals you know if they consider them self "liberal" and I'll bet at least 7 of 10 say they are "moderate".

I'm in the newspaper business. I've worked in four different newssrooms, for papers you'd all be familiar with.

In my experience, I would put the percentage at 90% liberal, 5% closet conservative who keep their mouths shut due to career concerns, and 5% outspoken conservative.

Actually, more often than not, that last 5% means "just me".

Of ALL the newspapers listed, I only see one that could be called "conservative," and that one, the Wall Street Journal, is ONLY conesrvative on their editorial staff.

Their news reporters are quite obvioulsy just as biased as those on any other major daily you could name, and frequently make statements hilariously at odds with editorial pieces published the same day.

Liberals outnumber conservatives 5 - 1?

Only if they include the sports and photo departments. They may also have to count ad salespeople as "journalists" to get the ratio down to 5 - 1.

No, 97% FReepers slid off so fast we didn't realize there was an edge.
