[ Chalabi accused the United States of trying to intimidate him at a time when he is speaking out against the U.S. occupation and threatening to go public with bombshell files on the U.N. oil-for-food scandal. ]

And Kerry wants to turn over Iraq to the U.N... and not a word from the administration on that.. A proper vetting of that should get Kerry laughed off the campaign circuit. Actually just get it started, and the comedians would do the rest. Are we taking october surprise or what ?..

....my supersized bottle of Tylenol

So you've got one of those too.

Not sure which is worse though - the pain from gardening beyond my limits, or the pain from all of this foreign intrigue.

Chalabi aides running the new government's Finance Ministry are also accused of ripping off $22 million

This may see trivial, but wouldn't "stealing" be a better term for a serious newspaper?

Bremer might be planning to make a break for the Dewmocrat party in July.

Why on earth would you speculate and start a rumor like that? Do you have any evidence to back it up?

Just because YOU don't know the big picture doesn't mean that NOBODY knows.

Amen to that!

Bremer is out of a job on July 1 when sovereignty is restored. John Negroponte will be our top civilian guy in Iraq.

From what I've seen, Negroponte is one of the good guys -- but it's getting harder and harder to tell.

In this linked article, he is criticized by the left for supervising the creation of the El Aguacate air base in Honduras. The air base was used for US training of Nicaraguan Contras back in the '80's.

I don't think it's a trivial criticism. IMV, it shows hyperbole and an inclination to be none objective. Good point.

It is a quite common practice to inject false information into the data stream to see who reacts to it. My suspicion is that we allowed Chalabi access to some bogus info that no one else had and saw a verifiable respone to it in Iran.

De-Nazification was not a bloodless process. Aside from the Nurenburg trials the SAS and KGB assasinated many, many Nazis in relocation camps and POW camps and on the streets and alleys of the world. If we really want to de-Baathify Iraq I'm afraid we will need equal measures. Perhaps, just perhaps, letting the uprisings run for a while in Falluhja and Ramalah gives our hit teams and snipers the opportunitiy necessary to accomplish this.

I find your sentiment to be neither necessary or sufficient. It really make no sense to me. Why would some strategy (the UN business) trump and electioneering tactic (pulling Bremer over to Kerry's campaign?) Why would one preclude the other? Why would one even contradict the other? You make no sense.

Because they don't want to be called on their hypocrisy-- celebrating Bremer as long as he's not in the Bush admin, but seeking his demise while he is?

Face it, you just do not like this war and you let it cloud your judgment. I assume here that you are what you say your are in your moniker and are not something else altogether.

I was analyzing the political implications of their hypocrisy. It had nothing to do with the war itself.

I think Negroponte is a good guy. And Bush just gave him the most demanding ambassador post on the planet. He'll earn every nickel he's paid, and then some.

Chalabi had info on Oil for Food scandal with proof that Bremer was hiding incriminating stuff on UN officials.

If true then Chalabi should play this card and humiliate Bremer as well as the UN all in one sweep. Check mate!

There have been rumors to this effect floating around DC that there is a recuritment effort underway to have Bremer come over to the Demcrats after the handover and have him begin to take apart the Bush policy in the press.

Bremer is held as a loose cannon in some corners in the administration.

It is just a hunch. I did not realize that you were so important around here that I had to clear my postings with you. Thanks for the info. Btw, do you have any "evidence" to back the self-improtant tone of your post to me or is that just between your ears?

Oh, I misread you there. I think that this will be the next big attack of the Rats: disrupt, compromise and discredit the "handover." I think that the fix is in with Bremer and that the administration may for once acting in a proactive manner.

I do not think at this point that the Democrats care the least in being called on their "hypocrisy." They will do anything and everything that they feel will hurt Bush. They are at once desperate and self assured of their ability to fatally wound the administration.

The rumors are true, and unfortunately the administration has known for too long that Chalabi is nothing but a punk criminal, but decided it could trust him more than the State Dept, which has been noting but a funnel of bad news to Democrats all along. Bremmer will probably accept Democratic invitations to bash the administration, and this time they will deserve it. This is the one area where I place complete blame on Colin Powell. He should have cleaned house at State, but decided to go along to get along instead. Powell is probably running for President in 2008.

We watch and wait and act when the time is right. Does anyone think that Chalabi was REALLY trusted by us? It's pretty hard to trust ANY OF THESE FOLKS. I hope the Iraqis realize that our presence is likely the only opportunity they will have for some decent kind of future. I remember one lady (maybe 50 or 55) in Iraq, who said when they knew we were coming: "War, what's war. We've been at war for 30 years. It is nothing." Then she looked around and said..."I must go."

Powell will be too old to run for President in 2008. He is already 67, or so.

I'll take Pukin Dog's word over yours, CasearianDaoist, because PD hasn't ever called me "self-important" in answering any of my legitimate questions. I apologize for coming across that way in my post.

Your comment about the Bremer move to the Dims is the first I had read of the rumors and I have to admit this is absolutely devastating news to me. Either of you, or anyone for that matter, have any reasons I should continue to even care about this election or support President Bush? This feels like the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back.

The State Department is hardly in a position to crow about anything, especially if we find in fact that WMD's went to Syria. The mastermind Powell put a stop real fast to doing a little cleaning in Syria a little more than a year to go.

Things do have a way of coming back to roost and Mr. Powell has toooooo much of a streak of "it's all about me" Clinton in himself.
