OUTNUMBERED British soldiers killed 35 Iraqi attackers in the Armys first bayonet charge since the Falklands War 22 years ago. The fearless Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders stormed rebel positions after being ambushed and pinned down.
Despite being outnumbered five to one, they suffered only three minor wounds in the hand-to-hand fighting near the city of Amara.
The battle erupted after Land Rovers carrying 20 Argylls came under attack on a highway.
After radioing for back-up, they fixed bayonets and charged at 100 rebels using tactics learned in drills.
Charge ... tactics from drills
When the fighting ended bodies lay all over the highway and more were floating in a nearby river. Nine rebels were captured.
An Army spokesman said: This was an intense engagement.
The last bayonet charge was by the Scots Guards and the Paras against Argentinian positions.
One thing is becoming clear about the insurgents there:
There may be alot of them, and they may be crazy, but they sure as hell can't shoot and they apparently can't fight worth a damn, either.
Outstanding.

All the terrorists know how to do is set off bombs. They don't have a clue how to fight.
F**KING A!!!
Maybe I'm dreaming, but maybe a few Brits will actually have a sense of pride in their troops from this!
And these Brits embarrassed the goons and thugs, humiliating them by killing so many when so fiercely outnumbered! How dare they intimidate the thugs and murderers! Next we'll hear they made the captives wear women's undies on their heads ... oh the horror!
Magnificent! Utterly keeping in the traditions of the Highlanders.
Would that American troops could be allowed to do such things.
Scotland, I raise my glass on high to thee!
WOW!
These terrorists fight like girls.
Here's to the Ladies from Hell!
Israel should be able to defend itself without giving up half its territory, just as the U.S. defends itself. Honestly, when the War on Terror winds down, we (the U.S.) need to become less involved in that part of the world on either side, IMHO.
Typical British understatement. On the short end of 5-1 odds, and coming out of there with 3 wounded while killing 35 and capturing 9 is definitely "intense".
God Bless these brave Brits! Thank you, England!
Leni
God bless the Brits, and Hallelujah for bayonets!
This was TOO GOOD! It's good to see that the Scots can really fight as well as strut their stuff. And they sure can strut their stuff! Better than the Irish can. I saw the Highlanders in Chicago many years ago and I just loved seeing them strut their stuff and play those bagpipes!
A Dios rogando, y con el mazo dando.
