OUTNUMBERED British soldiers killed 35 Iraqi attackers in the Armys first bayonet charge since the Falklands War 22 years ago. The fearless Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders stormed rebel positions after being ambushed and pinned down.
Despite being outnumbered five to one, they suffered only three minor wounds in the hand-to-hand fighting near the city of Amara.
The battle erupted after Land Rovers carrying 20 Argylls came under attack on a highway.
After radioing for back-up, they fixed bayonets and charged at 100 rebels using tactics learned in drills.
When the fighting ended bodies lay all over the highway and more were floating in a nearby river. Nine rebels were captured.
An Army spokesman said: This was an intense engagement.
The last bayonet charge was by the Scots Guards and the Paras against Argentinian positions.
And the British have been saying the Americans are treating the terrorists too rough....
bttt.
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my infrequent miscellaneous ping list.
Nice work lads.
The British use that stubby little bullpup rifle which I wouldn't think would be very satisfactory for bayonet work.
Great mental image, Thanks
Outstanding. Reminds me of the South Koreans in Vietnam. Put them in helicopters and, "Okay, are YOU ready to talk?". The troops known for showing fierce resolve in battle are not soon meddled with thereafter. Let's see how history plays out. I'll bet those units aren't ambushed much anymore.
Col. Joshua Chamberlain and the 10th Maine...
Apparently the islamofascists brought guns to a knife fight - and still lost big time! Jolly good show laddies!
That DNC taining the ists got appears to be lacking in several aspects.......
took a while to parse the bad journalism:
"British soldiers killed 35 Iraqi attackers in the Armys first bayonet charge since the Falklands War 22 years ago."
"After radioing for back-up, they fixed bayonets and charged at 100 rebels using tactics learned in drills."
"Despite being outnumbered five to one,"
" they suffered only three minor wounds in the hand-to-hand fighting near the city of Amara. "
Conclusion:
So there were 15 British soldiers against 100 bad guys.
The 15 British soldiers kicked the cr*p out of 100 terrorists, killing 35, capturing 9, and having only minor wounds in response.
RULE BRITTANIA!!!!
Now this makes my doubly proud to wear my own Sutherland family Tartan kilt!

Wow! Professional Soldiers fully engaged. I'm more than impressed...THAT is shock and awe!
Stonewall Jackson would be proud. Why do I get the feeling that that particular regiment won't be ambushed in the future?
How's that, Arabs and Joe Biden, for "Mano a Mano"?
If only President Kerry had gotten the International Community involved.
Spirit of the Bayonet!
I wish they'd let 'em go back to their No. 1 Mk. III Enfield .303 rifles with the 17" sword bayonet. Now THERE was a weapon for hand-to-hand combat!
