May 14, 2004 -- Nick Berg, the young American beheaded by terrorists in Iraq, had an earlier encounter with a Muslim fanatic - and inadvertently provided accused 9/11 al Qaeda operative Zacarias Moussaoui with his e-mail password. The bizarre twist was confirmed by the Justice Department and Berg's father. In what one Justice official described as a "coincidental" link, both the telecommunications whiz from West Chester, Pa., and the accused 9/11 conspirator were in Norman, Okla., in 2000.

Why not? Nothing that Kerry has done to this point suggests that he is the sharpest knife in the drawer. His game is pandering to the lowest common denominator and aligning himself with everyone and everything that is anti-American. Here is a man who aspires to rule a country he obviously hates. What little judgement he does have is clouded by his hatred of the president and the opportunity of the monent. And let's not forget, Hillary may be behind the scenes playing Kerry like a $2 fiddle and he's too much of an idiot to notice.

In addition to Travis' great scenario, I give you other, (less plausible?) alternatives:
Since there is enough already out there, allow me to speculate on the email account password sharing.
The bad guys have a way to defeat carnivore. The way they do this is by logging into an internet based email account (yahoo email) and composing a message - with no send to address.
save the message and log-off (no send executed)
The message sits on the yahoo server.
The next bad guy logs on to that very email account (note the passing around of Berg's password) reads the message then deletes it.
Carnivore never gets to intercept the email - because it is never sent.
Berg was either used by the bad guys, for his email account (probable), or he was an intelligence asset and this was a setup to access Moussaui's communication network (less than zero probability).
If the later, this guy was a hero - and a new star will go on the wall - with no name attached.
If the former, this guy was today's version Forrest Gump.

Snippy and I were discussing this possibility too.
It may not be that far fetched. He may not have known he was going to be killed, thinking only he was doing a "propaganda film" I found it strange that after being in captivity, although you'd expect a beard, that he had a neatly trimmed type of beard that is common to the Islamic men.
Something about all this doesn't pass the smell test.
I hate to speak ill of the dead, but only an idiot gives out his password.
It is amazing how the media (FoxNews primarily, but print reports, too) are playing all this.

just happened to meet Moussoussi,
just happened to give him his password,
just happened to be in Iraq,
[FBI also questioned him about possibly being in Iran, per one article]
just happened to be in Africa [weren't some embassies on that continent blown up by al-Qaeda a few years ago?]
just happened to want to leave Iraq but didn't trust to fly, but was willing to drive from Bagdad to Jordan---some 300 miles or so thru desert and Sunni triangle, etc.]
Just alot of happenstance.
And the Daddy Berg is out blaming the Bush administration.

Actually, someone reminded me that you don't even need the laptop--a Palm Tungsten C goes for just under $400, and can web-browse over any wireless network (allowing send/receive of web-based email). And most folks who set up a wireless network leave the network wide-open--any wireless device can get a network address and use the Internet.
Further down in the email, the Iaqi police questioned him for a few hours because of reports of Iranian spies in the town.

That's where I'm leaning. Berg became The Man Who Knew Too Much and al Qaeda probably figured he'd become less of a "friend" to them and more of a risk. The end.
That's why the borrowed password thing is so interesting
- same guy coincidentally duped for his email account that is later beheaded by the same group 10,000 miles away? (he is either Gump, a lefty ANSWER agent, or guided by clowns in action)

It seems from the earlier article that Berg's email account was 'passed around', and used as I described. (even though Pooh's method may be an improvement in security)
I wonder if the mission was more than just to be a "liason;" wonder if he might have been installing other equipment on those towers, when he was working at night...

I think I'm the kind of person who would share my food with hungry people in any country. However, they would NEVER, NEVER get my computer password or any of my PIN numbers.
That's what I said. Who else besides the dad has said he was a Bush / Iraq War supporter?
was it ghana or uganda? That story piqued me,,sounds like he was not giving away his food but maybe being held somewhere,,does that ring true to you? Was he in both ghana and uganda. I read he was in Uganda when alquaeda was forming cells there in 98. He sure got around.
Now what do we know about his father,,what does he do for a living?
Well, in the video (I only watched the first part) Nick doesn't seem afraid. In fact, he looks pretty darn relaxed which leads me to believe he THOUGHT he had nothing to fear from them.
In a "Draft" folder as was previously mentioned as the modus operandi of Al Qaeda in post #23 of this thread? Likely scenario.
