This guy isn't a contractor. He was there freelancing for business. At any rate some time before the Falluja trouble, alot of contractors were asked to leave and others on their way in were told to postpone indefinitely. Some of those involved important work. The US mil couldn't protect and handle all and incoming trouble was on the radar. If the US authorities there have strays, they will evacuate them. It is a dangerous place.
That's why I was wondering about the timeframe. It's iffy, but it could be done. Use a digital camera. Go straight back your hotel room and send the images to the selected recipients. It's tight, but with today's technology it could fit.
Another thing, just because someone said the investigation was launched in January, doesn't make it so. Sometimes lies have to be told to protect sources and the investigation itself.
I think this is something that would be right up Nick's alley. By all accounts, he was a idealistic young man who wanted to help people. He doesn't seem to be a violent man, but rather someone with a peaceful disposition. He would take incriminating pics rather than engage in sabotage, or harm someone physically.

I believe that no relatives are allowed at Dover, whether military or civilian. This is a long-standing rule from the first Gulf War. It is impossible to do security on grieving relatives without causing further trouble for them, and bad apples could get on the base as well. He is not being singled out.

Your theory is certainly possible. He may have gotten his hands on some of those photos, sent them home, dad got them and sent them to Hackworth. Hackworth isn't telling where he got them.
