Another thing, just because someone said the investigation was launched in January, doesn't make it so. The press reported middle january that an investigation had been lauched, (Centcom release). Also documented in senate/house hearings. I would tend to believe it. As I said, december is iffy - especially if word of an impending investigation were known (and the military is a rumor mill par excellance!!) I would tend to doubt this angle, but anything is possible......

Yeah, just because I had a tinfoil moment, I shouldn't try and make things fit when they don't. That doesn't mean it couldn't have happened. There are so many strange aspects to this.
