I can't find any fault with that theory, except that it pegs the 'just-damn' meter. All I can say is wow.

We may also know why his father is making the sounds he's making. Perhaps he is trying to avoid being implicated in something.

His father was interviewed and said they argued about this matter because the father is against the war and the president.

The interview has been repeated several times.

He would have been about 14 years old. Nice try though.

"If the CIA theory pans out, it wouldn't be they turned on him, it would they found him out."

Use your head. The CIA isn't going to send a Jewish kid into an Islamic lion's den with his real (Jewish) name and real passport...a passport that had his visit to Israel stamped in it.

You've already seen his dad on TV and seen his college friends, so you *know* that Nick Berg was the real name of the kid. People knew this kid. He has a history. Made up names for Black Ops run by the CIA don't have that level of made up history where everyone at the kid's college would be able to blow the cover out of the water.

So the kid ain't CIA.

The Third Terrorist was the most interesting book I've read in a long time. The research and people who endorsed the book are impressive.

It should be a must read for freepers.

It's impossible to say what happened with any certainty. It's only possible to say what's most likely at this point.

The FBI apparently conducted a lengthy investigation of Berg in captivity because they were checking out a possible friendship or other tie with an Arab at the University of Oklahoma who was under scrutiny in connection with the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

• The source said that in addition to his passport, cash and a laptop, Berg had two books when he was arrested in Mosul on March 24 that aroused suspicion: the Koran and a book that authorities somehow interpreted as "anti-Semitic."

Friends say it's unlikely that Berg, a practicing Jew, would have carried an anti-Semitic book but that reading the Koran and other local texts was very much in line with his intellectual curiosity.

• Berg stubbornly refused American offers of assistance in getting home - including an offer of free airfare, cash and an American escort. He told authorities before his April 6 release that he was eager to get back to work seeking contracts in Iraq, telling U.S. authorities "he was losing thousands of dollars in jail."

The New York Times is reporting this morning that Berg also sent a lengthy e-mail to his family after he was detained. Among the questions asked, he wrote, were: "Why was I in Iraq? Did I ever make a pipe bomb? Why was I in Iran?"

The Times said he conjectured that their questions arose from some Farsi literature and a book about Iran that he had. Berg wrote that after four days he was transferred to a cellblock that included prisoners charged with petty offenses and suspected "war criminals."

"Word had spread due to the presence of certain items amongst my stuff that I was Israeli," Berg wrote. "So I felt a bit like Arlo Guthrie walking into a jail full of mother rapers and father stabbers as an accused litterbug."

On April 7, the day after he walked out of the Mosul jail on his own terms, he wrote a friend: "I'm currently trying to pick things up with the business and the local contacts, all of whom think I'm the biggest flake in the world now, as well as plan my return trip, which has been complicated by...military closures."

Three days later, Berg disappeared.

"Plus an Uncle who is an Iraqi who has family there."

Okay, here's an "out there" thought: There's email traffic about his visit with his "uncle". Perhaps it was a terrorist contact and his email was a code?

I don't know for sure about anybody else, but something about this whole thing is bothering me, and it just on the tip of my tounge.

...lol... I saw a link to DU over there before this was being reported on Fox. They all thought it was CIA operatives that killed Berg - just to take the heat off the president with the jail scandals. Those guys are absolutely nuts.

"The CIA sent a lily white Jewish kid into darkest Muslim Iraq to go 'deep cover' into al-Queda's underground? Sounds preposterous, but lately I've come to believe that the CIA could indeed be just that retarded."

With his *real* name and real passport with his tourist visa from Israel stamped in it?!

Oh please. Do wake up.

If I flamed either one of you over this, you have my apologies.

To me, it was a case of retaliation by terrorists. It just seemed to me that Nick Berg was one of the civilian contractors. I'm interested in the truth, whether it hurts or not. If in fact the CIA was involved, no one will ever know.

How can Joe Citizen just "go" to Iraq?

I was having this very discussion with someone today. He did not have a contract to work but rather went there looking for work? That just doesn't make sense to me.

An e-mail like that is certain to stop the average FReeper from asking questions

I stopped cold. But it looks like the cat is out of the bag.

heres an obvious observation thats been bugging me for a long time:

berg is absolutely clean, no scratches, no bruises. i even wonder if he new he was getting killed. until it was too late. maybe he had some connection with al qaeda, and they just turned on him?

most soldiers etc that these guys held were beat up. this guy was way too clean to be a hostage. he was WAY to calm while reading the list of names and just sitting there.

he wasnt tied down, his arms and legs were tied, but he wasnt tied down.

if he new what was goin on, why didnt he fight back? why was he just sitting there? i'd be kicking and screaming and biting and anything else i can think of. wouldnt go that quietly.

just some observations.....lets tawk...
