Oh I know there are Jews in Iraq. It's really none of our business, but no one has come up with a name, or any info on this uncle. If in fact he is Muslim, any non Muslim would be strongly encouraged to convert. It's in the handbook.
I didn't read or hear about this particular instance, but I do know the level of burning hatred there is for Jews.

Do we really know when the body building photo was taken? In his emails he enjoys being mistaken for a Turk. I'd *assumed* he'd grown his hair and beard. However, if he couldn't speak the language why would anyone mistake him for anything but an American?
Oops, got my notes mixed up. I don't know exactly what he was doing in Uganda but he was there because of a Cornell University program. The setting up of a comminications system was in Kenya. He made bricks in Ghana. And somewhere in Africa drilled for water.

The info has been out for a while. Michael's now deceased sister was married to an Iraqi named Mudafer who lives in or near Baghdad. Mudafer's brother, Moffak Mustaffa, lives in Mosul. Nick hooked Moffak up with the internet. A friend in the Baghdad hotel told reporters the visit with Moffak was the only time Nick showed any sign of being concerned. Moffak tried to explain to him the dangers to himself and to Moffak. But, Nick once again poo-poo'ed the warnings.
I know these types. The grey beard radicals who have never really grown up. They are stuck with an early 20something mindset. Due to dumb luck many of them prospered in spite of themselves due to the strange dynamics of the economy of the 1970s. Although debt financed and reckless, they benefitted from the massive run up in home prices and of course the stock market between the time they got out of school and the late 1990s. As they reach their elder years, they are strongly reverting to their youthful selves, part of it is refusal to accept the harsh realities of the 21st century and part of it may be the cumulative impact of an epicurean lifestyle possibly including drug use (or at least psychoactives prescribed for psych issues) and plain old onset of senility.
That's a key finding.

I was somewhat listening to Fox this morning and there was a female reporter from the Philadelphia Enquirer who has somekind of story coming out in the paper tomorrow. Sounded like it was going to be interesting.
Great post! As a matter of fact that motel operator has come forward and I believe he is a witness now for the Nichols trial. I do not believe in coincidences especially when I found out that the FBI was looking for the computer of Moussouai in MN that Berg gave him along with setting up an email account.
Getting more complicated, but maybe more understandable all the time...
It was in the Norman Transcript yesterday that he was offered a flight out of Baghdad but didn't want to drive down the road that goes to the airport because it was too dangerous. Made no sense to me!
It is being reported here in Norman that Berg "gave" his computer to Moussaoui along with the email account. The bus deal doesn't ring true. Our local media is trying to find out where Berg lived here in Norman but last I heard the apartment complex where Moussaoui stayed was not talking.

Senseless. If he wanted to get out of Iraq, the safest way would have been to accept the US government offer. To drive across the whole country of Iraq on his own is psychotic - and to claim that it's safer? It had to have been an excuse for some other reason. Had to have been.
It said in the Transcript (AP article plus local info) that he was taking pictures all over Iraq when he was allowed (?).
Just too many coincidences here.
What is the theory about his being a food handler? That the hijackers ordered special meals (vegan, etc) and this guy stuck knives in there? I hadn't actually heard the Logan connection until this week, strangely enough.
My husband told me last week that they actually weren't box cutters, but leatherman tools. I'll try and see if I can find out where he heard it.
