frame grab taken from web site video footage May 11, 2004, shows a man, who identified himself as Nick Berg of Philadelphia (C) seated in front of his five masked captors moments before he was executed. Al Qaeda's leader in Iraq beheaded an American civilian and vowed more killings in revenge for the abuse of Iraqi prisoners, an Islamist Web site said on Tuesday. After one of the masked men read out a statement, they pushed Berg to the floor and shouted 'God is greatest' above his screams as one of them sawed his head off with a large knife then held it aloft for the camera. WEST CHESTER, Pa. (Reuters) - The family of Nick Berg, the 26-year-old American civilian beheaded in Iraq (news - web sites), said on Tuesday they were devastated by his death.
In a statement read on the lawn of the Berg family's home in West Chester, Pennsylvania, 15 miles west of Philadelphia, neighbor and friend John Hauser described Nick Berg as "a great kid."
"The Berg family is devastated by this loss," the statement said. "They want to extend their sympathy to other families who have also suffered. They are asking the army to expedite the release of Nick's body so they can make arrangements and put this behind them."
Al Qaeda's leader in Iraq beheaded Berg and vowed more killings in revenge for the "Satanic degradation" of Iraqi prisoners at the hands of U.S. troops, an Islamist Web site said on Tuesday.

You came to FR just for the purpose of dumping on Rummy/Bush et al. You cannot REALLY execute a coherent reason for "opposing the execution of the war"...You just repeat the usual left dogma....
Then to boot, you label as "idiots" those on this thread that don't care for your "what is wrong with those who disagree" claptrap. You assert that some are being really mean....then you say there are too many IDIOTS on the thread.
Oh boy, you are a piece of work.

Michael Savage said something yesterday that got me thinking. He said that Islamic terrorists don't fear death, they glorify it. They strive for martyrdom and their 72 virgins, so using the threat of death as an interrogation tool won't work.
Savage said that what the Islamic terrorists do fear is humiliation. Savage said that using humiliation to soften the terrorists prior to interrogation is more threatening to them than using the fear of death.
Savage said that, by comparison, Americans fear death but would accept humiliation if they knew they would survive afterwards. That is why Savage said that he doesn't condemn what happened at the Iraqi prison.

We have a dopey girl leading a muscular, obviously well-fed male prisoner around on a leash like a poodle.........By the way, can someone tell me who these prisoners really are? Am I supposed to believe they're just a bunch of shoplifters?
Read my posting at #30 and tell me what you think. These pictures have me really questioning.

Calm yourself down. Sure the soldiers were wrong, but that doesn't let Hackworth or CBS off the hook. The soldiers used the photos for their own person gratification and to impress family & friends back home. Hackworth used the photos in an attempt to damage the Pentagon, and the press used the photos to injure President Bush. What their collective hatred has managed to do, is put our soldiers and civilians at even greater risk. I hope the whores are happy with themselves.

Muzlims cutting off peoples heads has been going on for 1500 years.Anybody "shocked" by this brutal murder obviously doesn't know what we are dealing with.
Just wait until they start with the WMD in our cities.
They laugh at us over our concern about the prison "scandal".
They don't need a reason to chop somebody's head off.

I feel for this family, losing a son. I lost a loved one years ago, and have never fully recovered. Having said that, this young man went over volunarily, to earn money. He knew the dangers. I'm sorry the terrorists decided to kill him, but this family should blame the media for showing the pictures of the "abused" prisoners. After all, that was their reasoning for killing him, right?
The interesting thing is that the American government had NOTHING to do with this man's death. How can the family blame our government? Where is the responsibility here? They can't even blame the terrorists, who murdered him on camera! This is the most outrageous thing yet.
The public is really pissed off now, so this latest act of terrorism has backfired. Just listen to any talk show today. What are people saying now? They are FED UP with the prison "abuse" pictures, and PISSED OFF with this murder.

Thank you for providing me with a plausible reason for not watching this video. Truth is I don't have what it takes to watch it. I don't mind saying it loud and clear to those who ask, but it's nice to have something that makes sense to answer those who ask if I've seen it. I doubt that I will ever be able to watch it.

I believe that I read that there were Iraqis working at the prison. Is there a missing piece? How convenient that we can't see their heads/faces.
There definitely is something missing.

I just watched this video and the democrats that are crying and clamroing about iraqis being photographed nude or in womens' attire, should be made to watch this with 3-d glasses on a movie screen at least 10 times a day!!!
Democrats make me sick to my stomach...and even though it is election year, GW should not have apologized, nor should anyone else.
It isn't that we are "too civilized" to say "screw you" raghead!! we have become a sissified nation where PC is the order of the day.
They should dress saddam insane in bra, garter belt and nylons and parade him around on a flatbed truck all over iraq...shoot him up with some really good "happy" drugs and have him waving and modeling for the folks.
Let them know that everyone captured will receive the same treatment. Then cut his head off and feed him to a pen full of very hungry hawgs!! let al jazeera show that nationwide and see how many try to get back across the border only to find 1000's of Marines and Army Rangers waiting in ambush for them.
