LOUISVILLE, KY. (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry warned his political opponents on Monday against attacking his outspoken wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, saying, "They're going to have to go through me."
The Massachusetts senator also sought to dispel the notion he was aloof, asking one television interviewer: "Have you had a beer with me yet? I like to have fun as much as the next person, and go out and hack around and have a good time."
Worth an estimated $500 million, born in Mozambique and fluent in five languages, Mrs. Kerry can be controversial and blunt, disclosing her Botox injections, her prenuptial agreement with Kerry and the fact he was in the bathroom when he got word of his wins in Iowa and New Hampshire.
"If they want to attack her, they're going to have to go through me. I'll be the first to defend anything she does. ... She doesn't pull her punches," Kerry said in one television interview when asked if Republicans were targeting his wife.
"I think that they're foolhardy to do it, personally, because I think that she's so down to earth and so straightforward," Kerry said. "I think people who meet her love her."
Mrs. Kerry has been criticized for her outspokenness and candor, and some Republican commentators have also called on her to release her tax returns.
While she is wealthy from her marriage to former Republican Sen. John Heinz, the heir to the Pittsburgh ketchup empire, she said Sen. Kerry was not. She can only contribute the same $2,000 to his campaign everyone else can.
Kerry was able, however, to mortgage the couple's townhouse in Boston to take out a $6.4 million loan to keep his campaign afloat.

A few weeks ago she said she "can't believe I came to America....I can't believe I married an American."(even though her money comes from a Republican American.)
She sure as HELL should be attacked!

Id give Kerry two thousand dollars (the max) if he could actually manage to swallow three cans of Pabst in ten minutes or less. And if he actually managed to complete such a task, you could always rescind your offer and proclaim that you decided to give him two thousand dollars BEFORE you decided against it.

Where did you ever see an ear like he has? You could hide a six pack in there.
Maybe he DID, which would explain a lot.

LOL--what's he gonna do, throw his medals at me?
Looks like those tax returns that TerRAYza won't release will be quite a plus for our side.

This is the second story in two days where Kerry is mentioning beer. And in a very "I'm so touchable and ordinary.............." kind of context. Seems innocuous enough, unless he's implying that that " hey, that OTHER guy running for president won't have a beer with you." Ya know??

I read all the comments up to #250 and then went on to read other threads - but I had to come back. Many have correctly pegged it, to wit; John if your wife's going to attack the POTUS or VPOTUS she's fair game.
Well what do I see, soo-prize soo-prize, she did it again John. Over the weekend she attacked the POTUS, again Teresa: Bush Enviro Record 'a Sin Against Humankind'. So what are supposed to do? Sit quietly by? Nah..... don't think so John. However, you say we're shut up, or to - and I quote, "go through you".
Well for the life of me John, for some odd reason, I find that 'invitation' extremely disingenuous. Maybe it's because you have all that SECRET SERVICE PROTECTION John. And even if one was to take up up on your offer and you told your SS detail to bug-off for a while, the person would still be arrested as you have protected status that you can't waive.
As such, your "go through me" statement is as phony as your military record.
Ps: Your wife's a commie skank. And I don't think there's enough Absolut to make her look good. He!! she so bad, you can't even drink her pretty.
She looks like she was rode hard and put away wet!

"The ratings for HGTV must be going out the roof!"
Well here is another politcal escapee who uses HGTV to 'get a grip'.
I call it 'glass of wine' programming; from 'fever politics to mellow' by way of my remote. ;^)

I agree with the Senator. He should be held accountable for the statements of his Wife. If we are to attack his Wife, we should attack him as well.

"And of course, the reporter evidently framed a question sympathetically asking if the big old mean Republicans were targeting his wife."
for sure we will not hear this question from the media;
. . .'are Teresa's insulting; degrading criticisms of Vice-President Cheney, calculated attacks or just spontaneous eruptions?
or even. . .'When Teresa inserts herself by way of criticism of this Administration; is she not fair game for a response?'
Nooooo; that we should something so honest. . .

I doubt that the RNC will spend any time at all thinking about Mrs. Heinz-Kerry; she's not worth it.

BTW, is Evan Bayh trying out for Kerry's Vice-President? He has been on every talk show today trashing President Bush, Rumsfeld and the military. Evan Bayh is young, physically attractive, and fairly articulate. He also spews his BS in a low-key, non-hysterical manner which makes him appear to be moderate and relatively rational--at least to the relatively ignorant independents and moderates. IOW dangerous.
Fortunately, the person he is most dangerous to is Hillary. If he pokes his head up too high, she'll lop it right off. Unless he'd be willing to add his "charms" as VP candidate on HER ticket. IMO.
