See post 24. The Fredericks family wrote to seventeen members of Congress complaining about the abuse charges against their son "Chip." They say they got only form letters in reply.
If this is true, it gives the lie to certain congresscritters' claims to have been completely in dark about the abuse.

"If Hackworth is the one releasing the names they may all be Republicans."
Hack hates Republicans and GW more than his buddy al Querry/Kennedy does.

Ok. But if you followed the threads this week-end, many on this forum were adking for the names and calling for their release. I never saw a list. Two chances and most people still dont have a clue what you are talking about. If you want to persuade or influence people you can assume that everyone knows what you know and what you mean by the 17. I sure as hell dont!

Yes. and thanks, Wolfie. Not one Senator who the family claimed they notified came forward on Friday during the hearings, whether there or not, to say that they had already been aware of these pictures. Instead, just feigned surprise and outrage (feigned by the 17 if true).

I would not be surprised to find Hillary's name on the list.

I thought the notorious 17 were the bombers, terrorists, and murderers we were holding in that prison.

I'll be maligned on Free Republic for years over this! Not even close to the worst typo I've ever seen here.
Just in case you were wondering, the worst typo I have ever seen here was "superannuated nuclear teaty". No one has topped that one yet.

The 17 were supposedly notified (by constitutents serving in Iraq) of the prisoner abuse long before the pictures surfaced Actually these 17 were notified by a reletive of one of the accused, the reletive's name was a Mr. Lawson.
Mr. Lawson said that he contacted 17 members of Congress and Bill O'Reilly to say his reletive was being scapegoated by the military in the investigation that began in January, 2004, about the abuses at abu gharib prison.
Mr. Lawson then contacted hackworth and hackworth contacted CBS and thus the beginning of the smear campaign of Rumsfeld and the whole military over the actions of a few.

Agreed. Dime to donuts the names will be dominated by Republicans in an attempt to show that they were covering the President's arse.
Hack is in league with the Kerry camp.

"The 17 were supposedly notified (by constitutents serving in Iraq) of the prisoner abuse long before the pictures surfaced."They were notified by the father of one of the accused, trying to get his son off the hook. When that didn't work, he contacted Hack...and this twisted, sick parody of a rollercoaster ride to hell began.
Make 'em both testify under oath to the Armed Forces Committee and televise it on EVERY CHANNEL.

#34...I think her words will come back to haunt her!
....from what I read, Rumsfeld picked up on this immediately, and said something to the effect that THEY had the info when he didn't even have it!
I personally think Hillary is in big trouble!!

David Hackworth and his wife, Eilhys
ENGLAND Hackworth author several Vietnam books.
Hackworth, acting on behalf of one of the soldiers involved in the abuse scandal, (I think Ivan Frederick) sent a letter to 17 Senators early on. No Senator was apparently overconcerned at the time.
The whole world was notified of the abuse and an investigation in a Centcom briefing in January. Seems nobody questioned it further.
Hope Hillary, Kerry, Teddy and McCain were on that list. Both Hillary and Teddy are on the Armed Services Committee.

I believe the gentleman who blew the whistle on the prison abuse sent photos FIRST to 17 Senators and got no response so he contacted Hackworth and got action Wrong. The whistleblewer slipped a CD under the door of his CO. Others may have done what you said but the whistleblower went public in January.

Investigate all the perps, including whether they broke the law by releasing the photos to the media in an attempt to obstruct justice. Give them a fair trial and a very fast and public hanging.
