Moms Unleash Their Anguish, Anger Thousands March to End Gun Violence, Renew Assault Weapons Ban
By Eric Rich and Theola Labbé Washington Post Staff Writers Monday, May 10, 2004; Page B01
Several thousand people, most of them women, gathered on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol yesterday for the largest gun-control demonstration in four years, a loud and calculated effort aimed at forcing President Bush to renew the soon-to-expire federal ban on assault weapons.
The rally lacked the star power, and certainly the numbers, of the first Million Mom March in 2000, when hundreds of thousands of women flooded the Mall on Mother's Day. Organizers this time put the crowd at close to 3,000, a figure that could not be confirmed because police no longer estimate crowd sizes.
But the smaller turnout was expected, organizers said, and sufficient to kick off a nationwide campaign aimed at renewing the ban before it expires Sept. 13. The moms, who have joined with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, hope public pressure will force Bush to stand by campaign pledges supporting the extension of the popular ban.

All new Smith Revolvers are round butt, but (ahem) there are a number of grip manufacturers who make square butt profile grips to fit them. Smith is marketing a classic 50's style "coke bottle" that will retrofit round butt N frames. As far as controlability and shootability, I have to agree with your assesment of square butt revolvers.

So much for the "million moms"!!! Yeah I saw some of it on C-SPAN and it looked more like the 200-mom march to me. ;)
I heard they were going to rename it to the "Milli-Mom March".

Believe me, when I chamber a round, I mean to fire it. If the home invader makes a hasty exit before he gets a lead cocktail, then that's fine by me.

"In my home I dont bluff or scare an intruder with the sound of a racking pump."
It's not a bluff, my friend. If I chamber a round, I fully intend to use it. If the perp hauls ass out the window before he gets his chest opened like a sieve, then that's okay with me.
To: ought-six
If I were to confront any home invader, I would like to think my weapon is in full working condition. The safety would be off, my finger inside the trigger guard with the sights on center mass. I'm also not inclined to allow a home invader the chance to leave and continue their career.
I don't particularly care to make any sound that says, "I'm standing right over here and I'm trying to figure out how to load this thing".
Just my humble opinion. Your mileage may vary. It's easy to write stuff, safe, and behind a computer. Etc.

the first Million Mom March in 2000, when hundreds of thousands of women flooded the Mall on Mother's Day What a lie. They didnt get hundreds of thousands of women. They didnt even get a hundred thousand singular. More like tens of thousands.
And why am I the only one in this thread to point this out?

Funny, but chambering a round does not say "I'm trying to figure out how to load this thing." I have been shooting firearms for forty years. I am a Vietnam vet. I am a hunter. I have protected my home from intruders on three separate occasions, and each time the intruder hauled ass when they saw I was armed and about to shoot. I'd prefer not to have to shoot the SOB (not out of any compassion for the pr!ck, mind you, but because of the legal hassle: I live in Illinois, you know); but if shooting him was the only option left open to me, I would shoot him.
