Continued prayer and suggestions needed for Rachel:
I spoke too soon
From giznort | 05/08/2004 12:17:06 PM EDT new
Hi there! Remember how I was happy to not have any side effects from the chemo? Well.......
The tenderness on the palms of my hands and the soles of my feet weren't bad after round #2, but round #3 has certainly got my attention. My feet are puffed, swollen, and very sore and tender. Especially the right foot (which goes along with the right leg swelling from foot to thigh). I've been wearing a compression stocking for the last month on the right leg, but I don't think it's done any good at all. How big can a foot swell, anyhow??? This whole last week was bad. I still went to work, but trying to walk has been a real challenge. Folks, we really ought to appreciate healthy feet, I can tell you that! I think they're going to reduce the dosage on my chemo next time, which I am reluctant to do. I wish that I could do something to aleviate the painful tootsies so I wouldn't have to lighten up on the dosage, if you know what I mean.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm to avoid heat or long, warm baths (I shower anyhow) because that may cause a rash, so I plan on a tepid foot soak in Epsom salts.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Sure would appreciate it. (ouch!)
Rachel
P.S. Buying new rings on eBay hasn't helped.

I wish I had some suggestions for you. I am sending prayers though for the Lord to ease your pain and heal your body. God Bless you!
To: Pegita
I don't know what to suggest. When I had chemotherapy for Hodgkins (which was very unpleasant) I did a lot of walking on my doctor's advice, and it definitely helped. But this situation sounds different. You have my prayers.

Dear Giz, that sounds pretty uncomfortable for sure. I don't have any idea what you can do, but I will surely pray for you. Hang tough.

Any foot balm or gels with peppermint might be soothing, providing your skin is not raw.

Thank you for your prayers and kind thoughts. Happy Mother's Day to everyone, and I hope you are able to get together with loved ones and enjoy the day. Here in Wisconsin, the Baltimore Orioles have come back....we had to rush to the store to get oranges (well, we had to get groceries anyhow) but it's nice to hear their bubbly song and see their bright orange bellies and black wings against the (finally) newly budding trees and greening lawns.
Enjoy the day!!!!

Your great sense of humor undoubtedly helps you through these trying times. You are very brave. I wish I could recommend something helpful, but I'm not qualified. So I'll say a prayer to the Great Physician to lend you a hand.

Good Morning,
I'm headed in to the doctor one week earlier than usual because he'll be on vacation next week. I hope the doctor can help me with my swollen right leg and very tender feet. Although my feet are better this week, the right foot is very swollen and developed a sizable blister pocket. I'm concerned about this and ask for your help:) Thank you
Rachel
--------
Heavenly Father, we return to give You thanks that You are a friend to us, closer than any brother. Your Word teaches that You are with us always ... that You know our every thought ... You see our every tear and know our every heartache. In obedience, Gracious God, we cast our cares upon You, knowing that You will sustain us. We claim that promise for Rachel as she struggles with the swelling and tenderness in her feet. Touch her with Your healing hand, O God, that the swelling might be reduced and that she would again have ease in walking. Let not the blister turn into an infection, but cleanse and heal this wound, we pray. Give the greatest wisdom to her Doctor and all those involved in her care ... let nothing be overlooked that would help ... let nothing come about that would hinder her return to complete health. Bless her this week with a good report and a great tolerance for her treatment. We continually lift her up for Your goodness and mercy, in the Name of Jesus, Amen ...

Peg, if you were in my prayer group at church, I'd just have to say, "Amen to whatever Pegita is going to say, dear Lord".
Rachel, I pray that the Lord will give you comfort and heal your leg and your feet.
We ask for your love and your strength, dear Father, for Rachel.
In Jesus name, Amen.

There is a new cancer drug, (in pill form, called Irissa) which is a milder form of chemo. Just a suggestion for an alternative that you might want to ask your doctor about, should you need more treatment.
My prayers are with your for your continued healing. God bless.

Peg, if you were in my prayer group at church, I'd just have to say, "Amen to whatever Pegita is going to say, dear Lord".Absolutely. I feel inept at putting into words what I'm thinking.
giznort, my prayers are with you. I'm a chemical engineer by training, but, fortunately, have kids. In that regard, my suggestion is to treat the symptoms, and in this case that would entail elevating sore/swollen parts to relieve the pressure when possible :o)
I pray for your full and complete recovery, and ask these blessings in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

I know you are not to use a cream or lotion on the swelling or rash. I think they just expect you to ride it out, but I would check with the Doc because they want to know right away. My husband has had over 500 rounds of chemo and they ask at every check up if he has swelling or a rash.
