John Kerry burned the midnight oil on the phone with Democrat members of the Senate Armed Services Committee last night. He pleaded with them to go lightly on Donald Rumsfeld when the Secretary of Defense appears before them today at around noon. Rumsfeld is scheduled to answer their questions about allegations of abuse by US soldiers against Iraqi prisoners and the ensuing investigation.
The photos of those alleged cases of abuse have enraged the Arab world. And Democrat bigs on the Armed Services Committee have called for Rumsfleds head.
But according to our source inside the Kerry campaign, John Kerry badly wants the issue to go away. Kerry fears the longer the issue stays in the news, the greater the likelihood his controversial accusations of war crimes committed by US soldiers in Vietnam including his own will become an ancillary issue in the campaign for President. The 9-11 Commission is already going to discredit Bush in their report. If we push things too far, there is bound to be a backlash, our source told us. Tonights cable news talk shows were proof. Virtually every one of them ran footage of John Kerry in 1971 trashing his fellow veterans and admitting atrocities.
Our source told us that the Democrat Senate Caucus had originally planned to rake Rumsfeld over the coals at todays hearing, but that Kerry wanted them to tone it down. Kerry had heated phone conversations with at least two key Democrats on the Armed Services Committee, demanding to know of one, Why are you trying to fk me on this?
No word yet on whether Kerry was successful in persuading his fellow Democrats to go easy on Rumsfeld or not. I guess well just have to stay tuned to the hearings.

or did someone just open a can of tuna?

I don't think that Rummy saw the pics or had any clue that the reaction would be so stong.
He knew that this had been reported to the press on at least two occasions and he just did not see a problem.
Had he seen the pics, he might have connected the dots, but I honestly think that he did not.
He has no time to do such things as he is constantly appearing before congress.

Well, can we give specifics, no, not really.
But the source is not made up. We broke some news about possible shake ups high up in the Kerry camp, and just yesterday both Miceky Kaus at MSNBC and the New Republic they had big stories about it.
Hey, it's what was heard from a reliable source and we'll see how it goes. One thing you do know is that it's out there for everyone to see right or wrong.

"Is this for real?"
I wondered the same thing. I've also wondered how democrats dare comment on the recent stories of atrocities. They want us to believe Kerry walks on water, yet appear to give him a pass over his admitted VietNam atrocities.

Kerry hears the fat lady wearing a pants suit warming up in the background.
LOL! That line is a keeper!

Just the beltway buzz. They are all talking about it.
Even Kerry supporter Don Imus.
He said this morning that "the wheels were coming off".

I thought this was the most interesting comment in the article. How do the Dems know what the final report of the Commission is going to say? Maybe the partisan Dems are giving the Kerry people a preview of what they are going to report, regardless of what the evidence shows.

I talked recently with a Viet vetIt saddens me that anyone has ever treated our veterans that way. But everyone should realize that hatred not only for the war, but for those who fought it, was inspired directly by John Kerry and his slanderous accusations and lying testimony. That incident at the airport is John Kerry's fault. And our veterans need to understand that.

If Congress and the Arab world were enraged by the photos of prisoners... perhaps we should be showing more photos of the events of 9-11 and the dozens of other Arab Muslim acts of horror...
Why should the American public be "protected" from THOSE photos...
The media and Democrats ARE THE ENEMY WITHIN...
Their agenda is obvious..

He also said that the actual "fighting" troops were brought in from time to time and "built back up" with good meals to get their strength back up to go fight some more. He was in combat engineers battalion, and they were barely fed. Due to being nearly starved for a year, he was unable to eat a normal meal for months on returning. (Or the sight of nasty hippie crotch ruined his appetite, I'm not sure). His stomach couldn't handle it. Then he's subjected to Kerry and his ilk. Today's libs are just a hateful, if not more so, but smart enough (barely) not to be so publicly disrespectful and discredit themselves.

OOps, sorry. I totally agree with you and I must have not communicated that well. Kerry has "admitted" that he was a party to war crimes and I can only think that he indeed did slaughter women and children--just like saddam. I, too, have little sympathy for those terrorists who were made to grovel like dogs--even though I know we should be better than that.

I suspect Kerry knows who is behind this and is quite content in leaving him in the desert to fin for himself.

I get this feeling also. I have listened to talk radio the last couple days and the overwhelming response is support for Rummy.
