John Kerry burned the midnight oil on the phone with Democrat members of the Senate Armed Services Committee last night. He pleaded with them to go lightly on Donald Rumsfeld when the Secretary of Defense appears before them today at around noon. Rumsfeld is scheduled to answer their questions about allegations of abuse by US soldiers against Iraqi prisoners and the ensuing investigation.
The photos of those alleged cases of abuse have enraged the Arab world. And Democrat bigs on the Armed Services Committee have called for Rumsfleds head.
But according to our source inside the Kerry campaign, John Kerry badly wants the issue to go away. Kerry fears the longer the issue stays in the news, the greater the likelihood his controversial accusations of war crimes committed by US soldiers in Vietnam including his own will become an ancillary issue in the campaign for President. The 9-11 Commission is already going to discredit Bush in their report. If we push things too far, there is bound to be a backlash, our source told us. Tonights cable news talk shows were proof. Virtually every one of them ran footage of John Kerry in 1971 trashing his fellow veterans and admitting atrocities.
Our source told us that the Democrat Senate Caucus had originally planned to rake Rumsfeld over the coals at todays hearing, but that Kerry wanted them to tone it down. Kerry had heated phone conversations with at least two key Democrats on the Armed Services Committee, demanding to know of one, Why are you trying to fk me on this?
No word yet on whether Kerry was successful in persuading his fellow Democrats to go easy on Rumsfeld or not. I guess well just have to stay tuned to the hearings.

These Americans trying to keep us safe in Iraq have done nothing in comparison to what Horseface Kerry claims to have done in Viet Nam.

I am rather amazed that I have not seen placards saying "John Kerry is the reason Viet Nam vets were spit on when they got home"

FoxNews just reporting, Rumself is going to apologize to Congress for not keeping them informed.
Well, the media have tried for weeks to get the Admin to utter the a-word. Looks like they are getting it---yesterday from GW and today from DR.

Yeah, this source are not made up. We broke some news about possible shake ups high up in the Kerry camp, and just yesterday both Miceky Kaus at MSNBC and the New Republic they had big stories about it.
Hey, it's what was heard from a reliable source and we'll see how it goes. ONe thing you do know is that it's out there for everyone to see right or wrong.

I have seen snips of the testimony and his appearance on Dick Cavett and I agree totally with your analysis. I am interested in seeing if the MSM is comparing what he said back then to the Iraqi abuse scandal. If they have I have missed it.

If Kerry's prostate cancer 'flares up' it will be because a certain pant-suit has physically stimulated it with repetitive non-lubricated abuse.

I was hoping they'd go for broke for Rummy as I strongly suspect it would backfire on them. Whenever they let loose, it always does seem to backfire on them, doesn't it? (One poll I saw said 85% felt the 9/11 commission was mere partisanship.) But I wouldn't have thought Kerry was smart to realize this -- oh, wait, he doesn't. He just sees his own claimed "atrocities" in Viet Nam coming back to bite him. (Wonder what kind of mail/email he's getting from Viet Nam veterans . . .)

They nominated the wrong guy.
Remember the great line in "Raiders of the Lost Ark" where Indy and his sidekick figure out that the staff was too tall, and both said simulaneously, "They're digging in the wrong place?"
You can just hear the Dems moaning quietly, "We've nominated the wrong guy." For the war issues, Kerry was exactly the wrong guy specifically because of his Vietnam flip-flops. Howard Dean would have been so much more credible, and so much more consistent.
Of course, neither could win on the economy.

I talked recently with a Viet vet, who when returning from Vietnam through SanFrancisco, was urinated on by hippies who positioned themselves on catwalks under which the vets had to pass to leave the airport. He said it was worse with the women (who would simply raise their dresses, revealing a lack of underwear) whose urine would "spray everywhere" and was harder to avoid. Nice people.

Hello (fairly) New Freeper. Any reason you can give us for believing this report?
It's chock-full of specifics one would never expect to be accessible to an opposition researcher. But then, maybe we've got a mole burrowing deep inside Kerryville.

These questions have really dogged Kerry and the rumor is that he is coming apart at the seams. I seem to have missed that. Can you elaborate or is that all you know?

"Putrid little prick" describes Kerry perfectly. Except, I have usually used that term to refer to Moqtada al Sadr, the muslim "cleric" in Iraq. Now there is a literally putrid little prick.

(cough)Hillary(cough) is on that committee...
If Kerry had any illusions that he now controls the DNC, his illusions were again reminded that the Clintons still control the DNC.
During the Primaries, Kerry said he would get rid of Terry Mc if Kerry gains the nomination. Kerry got the nom, Hillary and Co said Terry stays. Note: Terry is still at the DNC.
Second Note: The Clintons STILL own the DNC, John, you don't.
