Time to Require Posters to Give State Info When Stupid Newspapers Don't
ML/NJ

This current thread (BREAKING NEWS: Air Force jet crashes near Callaway) is just typical of so many. Lots of us don't know where Callaway is; have never heard of Callaway; or mistakenly think it is a Golf Club.
(Yes, I know this thread says the pilots are from some AFB in North Carolina, but WTF is Callaway?)
Please! If the article being posted does not contain a dateline with State information, please add it (or other location info - e.g. 40 mi. SW of Philadephia) in brakets or something. Not all of us know where Springfield is.

One of MY pet peeves, too. It even tops people excerpting when they don't need to.

Having taken Journalism in college, it pains me to see all the journalistic mistakes that are made on FR. However, I also realize that not everyone has had those rules incorporated into their educations and I have adjuste to it. I do agree that there should be some sort of posting primer to help with this kind of thing.

I agree totally. Since the poster probably knows which state is involved, it wouldn't be difficult to use the two initials of that state. Why don't you post to Jim Rob? Maybe he doesn't know how much we'd like it.

Oh, Lord, stuck in Lodi again....
I agree. Some towns' names are used in several states, and some articles never clarify in the body of the article. Clicking on the link doesn't do much good, as many papers and TV stations don't give clues on the page.
