Here's another of my DC statue favorites:
Columbus Statue, by Loredo Taft
Columbus must be upheld. He made the world whole. He made it round. He brought the continents together, and launched history's greatest accomplishment, the infinite shrinkage of time and space.
Need we speak of Columbus naysayers who would trade the greatness of today for yesterday's smaller world?

Thanks for this terrific thread. Your rant was wonderful!
There have been far too many threads posted here with the liberal media's point of view for my liking. Last weekend it seemed like one right after the other, trumpeting US surrender in Fallujah. I didn't believe that then, and I don't now.

Nice, sweetheart. But I wouldn't even take your Kool-Aide, much less your anal solutions.
Suck up and get some perspective.

Thanks, Judith. Don't worry about Fallujah. Regardless of the details, we mustn't judge progress by the hour. Even if Fallujah is a mistake - which it is not -- it becomes a mistake only if we THINK it a mistake.
Time for folks to have faith in ourselves. Thanks to you for believing!

OK, I just had to amuse myself so that I don't blow a tube.
Your enthusiasm is hollow
The perpetrators of atrocites against Americans are still at large.
The heavy weapons that we demanded are still at large.
Terrorists dance in Fallujah claiming victory as Marines pull back.
If that's rockin' then give me rollin' instead.

Great rant Nicollo.
(I still prefer the terrorists dead so we can move on to the next batch, but you're right about how the rest of the world is reacting.)

The big boys have come out to play! With names like these popping outta my "New Posts to You" message, my morning coffee is redundant.
I'm glad to see it's not just me looking at all the fright, shaking the head, and wonderin', "what's wrong with you?"

Thanks for your "rant," nicollo. You've pretty much nailed it. It gives me goose bumps to think about the historical significance of the last few years and years to come. Let the whiners whine, let the socialists cry into their collective perfumed tissues.
We are doing the right thing. We need to be patient, rather than looking for instant gratification. Sure, we could wipe out fallujah in no time, which might satisfy some people's testosterone, but there are different ways to deal with different situations (duh!).
I say let the military do their job their way and support them fully! (Gotta go to work now, more thoughts later...)

Thanks Sam, and you know I don't disagree with you. I'm just sick of people confusing the tactical with the strategic, and then frag themselves -- and the rest of us with 'em -- when events don't go their way.
You know far more than just about anyone in the world -- literally, anyone, with your amazing work at the Freeper Foxhole -- that battles don't make wars, not even a bunch of battles.
It screams my mind to think of all the times in American history we could have given up at some bad, or seemingly bad, news.

And here we have a forum of whiners and foot-shooting fools who can't get over the fact that 2,000 Marines are doing OUR work not by killing everyone in a piss-water Euphrates spittoon, and by making them talk OUR language and not theirs, by making THEM meet us, by making THEM dance and squeal like greased pigs, by making THEM puff and drool, by making THEM jump and pretend to be good boys and girls. A nice rant, and I'm glad you got that out of your system. I would however like to remind you that all of those that are now believed to have slipped away from Fallujah are terrorists who are still out there. This war is about stopping terrorism before it hits the United States homeland again. It's nice to feel like we've made the whole world speak our language, or that we have changed the focus or whatever. But as soon as one of our skyscrapers gets knocked down again those words mean absolutely nothing.
I realize that killing all of those terrorists in Fallujah with B-52s is not 100% prevention that more buildings won't be knocked down. But it does guarantee that those known terrorists won't be the ones doing it. And you gotta start somewhere.
So let's all keep the focus on what this thing is about. It's about a war on terrorism. It's about being on "our" side or on the side of the terrorists. It's about winning the war because the stakes are very high. It's not about changing the political climate in Europe or anywhere else.
That's my opinion.

Now, I hadn't thought of casting off the Cut & Runners to instant gratification and wasted testosterone. That's too funny!

I appreciate your thoughts, and thanks for sharing. I must take exception to this:
So let's all keep the focus on what this thing is about. It's about a war on terrorism. It's about being on "our" side or on the side of the terrorists. It's about winning the war because the stakes are very high. It's not about changing the political climate in Europe or anywhere else.
The most revealing and least discussed moment in Condi Rice's public interview with the 9-11 Commission was when she talked about the large steps taken prior to September to change Pakistan before going after the Taliban. The Administration had it right from the beginning.
No, the WOT is not just about Fallujah. It is about the entire world.
