April 30, 2004 -- In a stunning snub, two Democrats on the 9/11 commission yesterday abruptly walked out in the middle of the Oval Office interview with President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. Both early-departing panelists, former Nebraska Sen. Bob Kerrey and ex-Indiana Rep. Lee Hamilton, insisted they had prior commitments - but their sudden slip out the side door of the White House left Washington and some fellow commission members in shock.

Question: How much are we taxpayers paying the jokers on this panel or is it "media time" in lieu of payment?
To: Brandon
Considering the fact that every politician in Washington and all the politically astute knew the 9-11 Commission members were interviewing the President and Vice President yesterday. Anyone who had an appointment with Hamilton or Kerrey would know exactly where they were and the reason for any delay. These two have shown their true colors by "dissing" the President and shirking their responsibilities to the commission.

From a cell phone (perhaps discretely in the butler's pantry just off the Oval Office).
"Pete, this is Bob. Listen, you know I'm doing that 9/11 commission thing. Yep, really important. Glad you agree.
I've run into a little delay. The President and VP are still at it and I need to push back our lunch an hour or so.
Does that work for you? Great. I'll treat to the wings and the pitchers."
But NO - the 9/11 stuff is a sideshow.

Kean has always been held in low regard by real republicans and now he has managed to prove his ill intentions to everyone.

Hamilton bolted so that he could introduce the Canadian prime minister at a ceremonial event at the Woodrow Wilson Center, which employs Hamilton as its director.
"I was surprised," fellow commission member James Thompson told The Post.
You know, I can barely accept Lee Hamilton's excuse, since he was introducing the Canadian PM. But I absolutely refuse to believe that if Bob Kerrey had called Pete Domenici he couldn't have re-scheduled that meeting.
Like this??
"Good morning everyone; I hope you've enjoyed lunch. How about a hand for the caterers, would you please: they've done a fine job, as usual."
"As you know, our director, Lee Hamilton, is grilling the President and Cheney at this moment. He was due to introduce our esteemed guest, but we know that what he is doing now is of the UTMOST importance to our Country.
"So, as a fellow commision member, it is my priviledge and honor to present to you the Canadian Prime Minister..........."

I agree. Hamilton could have delayed leaving as well.
I just can't understand why they would do this, when it makes them look bad.
I am certain that they could have delayed leaving without difficulty. Therefore, I must assume they have the manners of pigs, or that the commission is not their numbe one priority.
Or both.

I have a different theory. I think Bush unloaded a surprise like Ashcroft did. If correct, we should see very different commission actions from this point.

Their notebooks were taken from them before they left the sessionI suspect those two had to leave because of clearance issues.
To: kattracks
My thought is that these two rat party creeps didn't like the answers they were getting. The truth hurts so they left! Too bad our President and Vice President had to take the time out of their busy and more important duties to appease this group of fools

"They didn't anticipate it would go as long as it did," 9/11 commissioner John Lehman told The Post. After months of partisan attacks criticizing the first committment by Bush for an hour interview. I'm glad the Post gave this the front page headlines it greatly deserved.
The Post is becoming more credible than the stately New York Times, Fox is more credible than ABC,CBS & NBC, RUSh is more credible than larry King.....my have things changed.

I'd love to imagine W. and Cheney in the room when the door was closed:
"I want to thank you all for coming up to the House today. Before we get started, I just want to thank you for your service to your country... Thanks to you and your partners in the media, good hearted Americans across the country can see what preening jackasses the Democratic party has become, uh sorry Tom Kean, I didn't mean to exclude you. Anyway, you're saving Dick and me a ton of cash exposing what a threat to national security it is to trust the left with any real power.
Hey Bob, Hey Lee, where are you going? I'm just getting warmed up. This is going to be fun!"

Kerrey dashed to handle a private business matter - lobbying Sen. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) for more money for his employer, the New School University in Manhattan. You gotta admit, this is a pretty good gambit when panhandling a Senator. "It was so important for me to meet with you over this funding amendment to the Omnibus Appropriations Bill, Senator Fizzlebottom, that I had to walk out on the President of the United States to be here..."

Does anybody think Bush is so shallow that he cares if these clowns walk out on him? This was a
great turn of events of for Bush. Yesterday AM the media story was about how Bush was so dumb he had to have Cheney hold his hand while he cowered in his office under the 9-11 Commission's grilling. Would he survive?
Today the story is how Bush spent so much time with the Commission that they cried uncle and walked out first. Does anybody think Democrats like Kerrey and Hamilton would have left if Bush was performing badly? Not if the Rockettes were giving it away in Lafayette Park.
