That's very disappointing. We'll have to enlighten him with links to some facts. Let the emails begin.

Calm down. He was reading a New York times piece which weepily told the story of people who find themselves unable to make small talk. HE WAS NOT TALKING ABOUT SERIOUS AUTISM. Geez.

Last week, Sean Hannity poo-poo'ed the idea of ADD and claimed it didn't exist. Much of today's diagnosis of ADD may be exaggerated but to dismiss every case is ridiculous.

Below is a list of Asperger Syndrome characteristics:
http://www.aspennj.org/ What are the characteristics of these disorders?
Children with these diagnoses exhibit serious and chronic social, behavioral and communcative impairments. Not every child is the same but some characteristics may be:
socially awkward and clumsy in relations with other children and/or adults
naive and gullible
often unaware of others' feelings
unable to carry on a "give and take" conversation
easily upset by changes in routines and transitions
literal in speech and understanding
overly sensitive to loud sounds, lights or odors
fixated on one subject or object
physically awkward in sports

I heard a few minutes at lunch. He was making fun of the guy who wrote it in such a touchy-feely way. Apparently, the guy figured out he had this syndrome, and said "everything has changed, even though nothing has changed". I think Rush was ridiculing the guy's rather cosmic writing style.

I'm glad you posted this, but would you mind telling me exactly what he said? I got into my car just as he was finishing up his discussion of Aspberger's and I was hoping to come here to find out what he said. My son has a very good friend (age 15) who has Asperbergers Syndrome and I have another friend whose child was just diagnosed with it.
Rush didn't sound like he was being rude during the part I heard, but I didn't hear the whole thing.

I heard him, too. He said it was shyness. It isn't. I have been researching it for personal reasons. The person who has it has A VERY DIFFICULT life and so do the families.

Rush's show is delayed here in Austin, so I will listen and see exactly what he said. Will try to get the entire drift of his comments.
