Nice move on the part of the Marines.
Infiltrate. Set up an ambush. Kill 11 bad guys in an area they believe to be safe, beat off a counterattack, and beat feet.
This does not go down well among the rest of the bad guys.
What I think is going on is that in most cases, small groups of jihadi are trying to get the hell out of Dodge before the hammer falls. I think the Marines know this, and aren't letting any cockroaches escape the motel. That's the origin of these firefights we've been having the last four nights.
It's as I said: this is Stalingrad all right. Only the terrorists are the in the role of the Germans.
Be Seeing You,
Chris

Think the jihadists see now that ambush works in both directions?
If they don't, it'll be just a little bit clearer after next time. Adopting the guerilla to fight the guerilla. 11 enemy dead with no casualties. Think they'll figure out who's better at it?

"Marines can go to sleep tonight knowing they killed (some) bad guys," said 2nd Lt. Josh Jamison, leader of the 2nd Platoon, which infiltrated some 400 yards ahead of its defensive lines to finally put down some of the rebels who daily sneak up to shoot rifles and fire rocket-propelled grenades at the Marines. One squad killed five men who were carrying machine guns, the Marines said, and another squad, assisted by a tank that rolled up to help, killed six other insurgents who tried to counter the attack.
No Marines were reported killed or wounded.

The author -- Darrin Mortenson -- has been writing some of the best, most descriptive front-line articles that I've read in a long, long time. Reminds me of the print reporter from WWII that we used to get from writers like Hemmingway, Pyle, Gellhorn, and even the presently despised Andy Rooney. I look for Mortenson's reports from Iraq every two or three days. He does our soldiers justice.

And then give one to me!
Gee, Ma, look what I found. Can I keep it, can I keep it?

Way to go, US.
It is interesting that even when the enemy is paying attention to the possibility that our guys might be in the area, and are cautious, our forces still prove superior.

Gen. Kimmett was describing an action this morning in his press conference. Some insurgents took over a building and set up firing positions. An AC-130 came around and when things were done, they found 25 dead insurgents.
I didn't catch where this happened.

All this 21st century equivalent of a bombing halt is doing is giving the terrorists in Falujah a chance to dig in deeper.
Time to go in an clean out that nest of vipers, in level the town in the process. The only thing that will bring order to Iraq is the certain knowledge that any resistance will be met with massive retaliation.
Bring on the daisy cutters and MOABs.

They were definitely moving like trained military, bounding up the street using the buildings for cover," Where the heck did we think Saddam's "army" went to after the invasion? Remember how they "just melted away" and went home? They ain't gone.
