What are Iraqi 'patriates'? I think they mispelled 'patriots'.

This is actually clever wordsmanship -- a "patriate" is a resident of a country (q.v. "ex-patriate" a citizen of one country living in another). However, it is a near-homophone to "patriot", which is what most people will think.

IOW, the ad tries to call the dead-enders "patriots" while having plausible deniability. With that kind of subtle writing, how did they ever manage to include "pull the trigger".

Of course, option #2 is that the spell-checker suggested "patriate" after a butchering of "patriot" -- given the lack of linguistic skill in the rest of the ad, this may be more likely.

Thanks for the info.

Ken Steinke was no doubt called "Stinky" as a kid, and has therefore been bitter (not to mention mentally unstable) all his life.

I've been reading a lot on the Spanish Civil War lately, trying to determine what the flashpoint was for the culture war between the Christians (in that country, at that time, almost exclusively Catholic) and the Communists to become a shooting war, so that I'd have a better chance at predicting America's path towards another civil war and hopefully get my beloved-but-heads-in-the-sand family to safety.

What looks to me at this time like the turning point (though I have MANY more books to read) was the kidnapping and ASSASSINATION of a Catholic member of Parliament, Calvo Sotelo, which the Republican (Communist/Anarchist) government refused to investigate at all.

Publicly calling for the assassination of a member of the administration had better not go unpunished, even though this is just a freebie coupon rag.

Hey, check this out about Mr. Steinke. From the link:

Shirer thinks Ken Steinke, a former chairman of the Pinellas Democratic Party, is responsible, as does Cheryl Long, the Pinellas Democratic chairwoman, who said Steinke acknowledged to her that he orchestrated the maneuver.

Steinke, however, declined to comment.

Dirty tricks are us apparently.

I realize this is central Florida where liberals abuse
the courts to get away with murder [Schiavo]

...or persecute conservatives [the flagpole homeowner, or Limbaugh]

But this death threat against our Secretary of Defense is
CLEARLY a felony. The FEDERAL courts there might not be so
corrupt as the central Florida circuit courts.

But something happened to the Dems around 1968 or so ...

January 1992 and the preceeding 3 months ... that's when the democ"Rats" most visibly deteriorated into the mob they are today.

I hear ya, if this was done by a republican group the dems would be up in arms.

In addition, where is the "liberal press" on this one? Where is Katie, Dan, Peter, Ted, and the rest of them? This groups is calling for the assassination of a government official. They should be hunted down and prosecuted to the full extent of the law!

"... designed to make them look bad (worse)."

They don't need any outside to look bad; they can do it all by their liberal-demokkkRAT-socialist-commie-nazi selves.

Rush, or Mark Levin??? I assume it's Rush... Busy at work bud, but I'll try. He played the View's comments re: sending WMD's to Bush... discussing Reno's (lack of) answers to the 911 commission.

For Discussion: The language of 871 U.S. Code.

My reading is that it requires both a threat (as distinguished from an advocacy), and that the successor actually be the next in line.

Section 871. Threats against President and successors to the Presidency

(a) Whoever knowingly and willfully deposits for conveyance in the mail or for a delivery from any post office or by any letter carrier any letter, paper, writing, print, missive, or document containing any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States, the President-elect, the Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President of the United States, or the Vice President-elect, or knowingly and willfully otherwise makes any such threat against the President, President-elect, Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President, or Vice President-elect, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.
(b) The terms ''President-elect'' and ''Vice President-elect'' as used in this section shall mean such persons as are the apparent successful candidates for the offices of President and Vice President, respectively, as ascertained from the results of the general elections held to determine the electors of President and Vice President in accordance with title 3, United States Code, sections 1 and 2. The phrase ''other officer next in the order of
succession to the office of President'' as used in this section shall mean the person next in the order of succession to act as President in accordance with title 3, United States Code, sections 19 and 20.

I just called. The lady who answered said the publisher was on another line, they had received numerous calls. I asked if they were planning to continue to run ads calling for the assassination of a cabinet member. She laughed and stated she couldn't respond to my question. She said only their editor could respond. I asked to speak to the editor. He too was on another line. I asked if I could hold. She stated he would be on the line all day. "All day?" I replied, "how could you possibly know that?" She laughed again. I gave her my name and number, asked that the editor call me, and admonished her for laughing at such a serious and dangerous issue.
