Um, Mr. Ashcroft is from Missouri, thank you very much. He was our AG and later governor before being elected to the senate. That picture was found on a DemocRAT site during the TEXAS Redistricting last year.
The RATS try to pin EVERYTHING on Ashcroft.
I know he's not from Texas, but I like Ashcroft, and I like that pic !

Another casualty of the Clinton Administration. The FBI Dir needs a DOJ chaperone to go to 1600 Pennsylvania Av.

Right. Quote from Gorelick memo (my emphasis):
"We believe that it is prudent to establish a set of instructions that will more clearly separate the counterintelligence investigation from the more limited, but continued, criminal investigations. These procedures, which go beyond what is legally required, will prevent any risk of creating an unwarranted appearance that FISA is being used to avoid procedural safeguards which would apply in a criminal investigation."

Pincus was brought up by ben-Venista in the hearings back when they interviewed Laurie Myolrie (sp) - Pincus is intricately involved in the effort to disassociate Iraq from the WOT so as to go after Bush and use the war in iraq to beat him over the head for 'not going after' bin laden.

I reported on the "wall" on air with Jerry Agar last week. The separation between the FBI and the CIA was created in 1947 when Congress established the FBI. The FBI was to stick to law enforcement, gathering evidence that would be admissible in court.
The CIA could use other means. And was not concerned with admissibility in court, but only accuracy of information gathered, for use in the Cold War or in any "hot" wars that might crop up. And the CIA was not supposed to act within the US.
The point was to avoid the creation of an "American Gestapo" which could go anywhere, and do anything. That was a logical purpose at the time.
The Associated Press and at least one major newspaper got this story correct as of this morning. Most broadcast entitites including Fox STILL don't have this story correct.

The Northern Alliance Bloggers (Powerline, Shot in the Dark, et al.) are subbing for Hugh Hewitt on his radio show today. They are all over the Gorelick smackdown. Kathryn Jean Lopez from NRO's the Corner coming up in next segment. Believe Hugh's show can be heard online (www.hughhewitt.com).

That's exactly what I thought; we should have a list.

"Didn't Gore-lick leave DOJ in 1997? If so, it had to be 1997 or prior." I believe I heard Ashcroft say it was written in 1985.

Thank you...I think Gorelick will be asked to step down. Ashcroft dealt her a huge set back. Dashle obviously thought they'd create immunity for her. Brit (MY HERO!) is talking about her now.

Brit Hume story now: What does Gorelick's presence on Commission say about the Commission?!

JANUARY 27, 2004 : (FEITH MEMO TO SENATE INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE : CHENEY REFERS TO A STEPHEN F. HAYES ARTICLE "THE US GOVERNMENT'S SECRET MEMO DETAILING COOPERATION BETWEEN SADDAM HUSSEIN AND OSAAMA BIN LADEN " IN THE NOVEMBER 24, 2003 ISSUE OF THE WEEKLY STANDARD, WHICH CONTAINED LEAKED CLASSIFIED INFORMATION, AS THE 'BEST SOURCE OF INFORMATION' ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN IRAQI LEADER HUSSEIN & AL QAEDA) In today's Washington Post, Dana Milbank reported that "Vice President Cheney . . . in an interview this month with the Rocky Mountain News, recommended as the 'best source of information' an article in The Weekly Standard magazine detailing a relationship between Hussein and al Qaeda based on leaked classified information." - Dana Milbank of the Washington Post, January 27, 2004
(The leaked info would be memo by Undersecretary of Defense for Policy douglas J. Feith to senators Pat Roberts and Jay Rockefeller of the Senate intelligence Committee)
Here's the Stephen F. Hayes article to which the vice president was referring (I highly recomment reading this) :
- "The U.S. government's secret memo detailing cooperation between Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden. ," by Stephen F. Hayes, 11/24/2003, the Weekly Standard, Volume 009, Issue 11

Ashcroft said 1995.

When Ashcroft finished his opening statement, I could almost hear Ben-Veniste thinking: "Well played, Ashcroft. I'll see you in hell." (Based on an old Seinfeld episode.)
