Barbara (L) and Jenna Bush, the daughters of U.S. President George W Bush, walk together from the Darnall Army Community Hospital in Fort Hood, Texas, April 11, 2004 after President Bush (news - web sites) and members of his family visited with soldiers wounded in Iraq (news - web sites). Bush awarded 10 purple hearts to troops recovering in the hospital, after attending an Easter Sunday Church service at a chapel within the army base in central Texas.

Do you let your daughters go out of the house slipless, with hose on under their sandals?

"to call them sluts or whores"

Who called them sluts or whores?

Not me.

If you disagree, please cut and paste the quote.

Try to stick to reality.

Their choice on fashion is a tad on the slutty side. Then again, they often make the headlines ... for all the wrong reasons. Flame away at me!

Did you ask those young ladies' mothers why they allowed their daughters to keep their Saturday-night attire on straight through the service?

Oh my dear, I have a whole pamplet on underpants rules for daughters. First, you never, ever, go out unless it is to the emergency room and then only if you are in full cardiac arrest and have no say atall, unless you put on clean underpants. Second, you always wear underpants as if everyone in sight is going to get a gander at them just in case the rules fail. Third, if you are shorter than 5'6'', you must wear the high leg ones. Fourth, you must never show a bikini line in a clingy dress. Fifth, you never take them off while out and about,,that is a strict rule. Fifth, do not misplace them in glove compartments, under pillows, by swimming pools, etc. And always have a spare pair in your desk, your purse and your travel bag and your gym bag. You need at least three dozen to maintain the above rules. And animal prints are only to be worn with jeans if you are in very good health and not likely to go to the emergency room and drive with good drivers, wear your seatbelts and don't drink while driving. and they should match the bra.

When I hear the term "shift dress," I think tank or almost sleeveless. I trust your daughter did not bare her shoulders in church?

My daughter has a 3.0 in high school, is a highly moral young gal, and a firm Bush supporter. She would look very much like these gals when she goes to church(perhaps with the exception of the spaghetti straps), as do her peers, and I think they look fine.

Your daughter would wear hose with sandals too? What is WRONG with these women?

"bout the same as all girls that age including my daughter!
but I still dont like it much!...guess all daughters drive their dads nuts"

Do not say all, say many, or most, if you must.

My daughter dresses like a young lady and her behavior makes me very proud of her. I wouldn't change a thing about her.

She is beautiful, sweet, religious, agreeable, demure, and so smart that she is scary; straight A's taking chemical engineering at Rice.

I credit her demure behavior to my wife and her excellent academic record to my encouragement. Her looks and brains come from the Good Lord.

now i looked askance at the midriff bearing top worn by a girlie to Easter Sunday mass, but as others have said on here a whole LOT of the dissension as to the standards espoused on this thread can be explained by the denomination in question. Bible Belt and fundamentalist churches are going to have different standards. the tridentine Latin rite Catholic church we sometimes attend, has dress rules posted directly on the door. not only must women have their heads covered, but sleevelessness is verboten. But that is not the norm for Catholic church. you cannot hold other denominations to the standards dictated by your own.

I don't cut and paste but seeing as how you inferred from your posts that they were and other posters noted the same thing, surely you will agree you gave that impression.

You are just smarting that I called you a fuddy duddy. Don't get all snippy about it. BTW you better go check on your daughter right now, they have a habit of doing bad things when you are distracted and not controlling their every move.

Are you a Muslim?

Farthest thing from the truth possible, excepting if you should ask if I am an atheist.

What church do you attend?

I am an evangelical charismatic born again believer. I love this pastor and the entire ministry team. God has used them to set my feet on the Rock of Christ and lead me into paths of peace and fulfillment in life. They love the Word of God and His holiness and so do I.

I have personally heard the men complain about the bare backs, etc., of some of the women, saying they can't concentrate on the sermon, the worship, etc. The men have gone to the pastor and asked him to ask the women to please cover themselves. The pastor has passed on the message and his heart was in it.

If a man goes into the house of God expecting to worship Him, wanting to worship Him, is it too much to ask the women not to get in the way of that? Men can't help but be affected by immodestly dressed women. Women can help how they dress. And at the risk of disgusting you, I will add that women are going to answer to the Lord of the congregation for even such a thing as how they covered themselves in His house.

a denim jacket over a white Cotton dress is Conservative and cute, a long sweater over a spaghetti strap mid-lenght dress is Conservative and smart. ...the shoes...well ... youthful indescetion...

Let this Texas woman spell it out for you.

Neither girl is dressed appropriately for church.

Denim is not appropriate at church service. After church, or at a youth function, perhaps. Not at church proper.

Unless you are a member of a wedding party, spaghetti straps are never appropriate in a church building.

Hose are never worn with open-toed or open-heeled shoes. Hose go with pumps.

oh believe me, DS, we are totally in awe of your daughter. we couldn't possibly have daughters who are such paragons of intelligence, virtue and beauty ourselves, so we will just stand, jaw agape at your good fortune...

Should they have worn slips? Yes. But they also could have forgotten.

A properly reared lady never "forgets" her undergarments. She may neglect to don them, but she does not forget that they belong on her.

The topic is two events the daughters attended yesterday, Easter service, and visiting the troops. My comments address both but there is a difference in how I would expect a modest young woman to dress in each situation. IMO, the dresses don't pass the test for either activity.

Your ridicule and mockery are not making sense to me.

He'd probably think they were dressing like that to play to some guy's sexual fantasy.

I meant to write that they could have forgotten to pack their slips.

Perhaps the oversexed men in your Church might sit other than behind the bare backed hussies. Geeze Louise. You sound like a stepford wife not a real living woman with a grain of sense.

"more appropriate as defined by you, you mean."

Of course, it is just my opinion.

Why does my opinion infuriate so many of you?

If you think that wearing a ragged jean jacket over an Easter dress or wearing a bright green slinky dress with white stripes snaking across the rear is appropriate for wearing to Easter services on an army base in central Texas, you are entitled to your opinion. I would question your fashion sense, but it does not make me mad or cause me to call you a troll.
