[history]
A mugger yesterday fired two bullets into a defiant student who refused to turn over his cellphone, cops said. Even after Marcin Muchalski, 26, had been shot once, he grimly hung onto his phone and continued arguing with the gunman, who had accosted him as he bicycled over the Williamsburg Bridge.

Welcome to gun-free New York City. With our strict gun laws no one is allowed to own a gun, so therefore this is no crime.

I don't know...
75 percent of me admires this guy's stones, but 25 percent of me is dying to crack a lame Polish joke.
Glad they caught the perp, although I doubt he will get much in the way of jail or prison time.

Phew, yeah jjim good thing no one has guns in NYC. This could've gotten ugly.
I'm glad rigorous training and licensing programs are working so well.

Well for possession, but won't they at least TRY to bag him for attempted murder? I mean, he shot this guy not once but twice.
I'm no lawyer, I'm just thinking out loud here.

In NYC you cannot use a gun to defend yourself, but the use of a gun to redistribute wealth will help in mitigating any responsibilty for attempting to right society's malfeasance in pursuing class warfare.

100% of me says this shows you the kind of stones the Polish really have. This is a real hard working immigrant, the kind that made this country strong. He's not about to let some lazy shiftless welfare queen take even one dime from him, even with a gun.

That's what mace and other things are for. Cayenne pepper for example when blown into another's face is a very nice defense mechanism.
I have to say, and I've been chastised by my friends for "being Polish" as well, but I also think I'd try to do something. It's tough to shoot someone who has his thumb two inches into your eye socket.
I don't think I'd think quickly enough to avoid getting my thumb stuck. Then I'd throw the SOB over the side of the bridge and continue on w/ my evening. Go calm down while watching the Habs get pummeled or something.

Someone in NYC needs to keep an eye on this case. I'd bet Julius Griffin is a free man within 12 months.

Yeah, let's give guns to foreign students.

100% of me says this shows you the kind of stones the Polish really have. I have no doubt. In WWII, when the Nazi's blitzed them, the obsolete Polish Cavalry knew what they were facing against the German's armoured divisions as they sat on their mounts. They still charged them down. Some people speak of it as if the Polish were stupid. I think it is a mark of outstanding courage, honor and devotion of one's life to confronting their nation's enemy. These men died with honor.
We are talking "Royal Stones" here.

The Poles actually did pretty well against the Germans considering:
1. It was a "sneak attack"
2. Germany is much larger, more industrialized and with more population.
3. The Polish army was not as modernized but they were upgrading at the time of the war
4. The Poles gad to maintain defenses on three fronts - German, Soviets and Slovakia.

He's not about to let some lazy shiftless welfare queen take even one dime from him, even with a gun.An additional or alternative rationale -- having finally programmed all of his family and friends' phone numbers into that phone, he may have said to himself, "Dang, I ain't goin' through all that hassle again!"

The guy takes a .38 slug in the leg, point blank, then upon being shot in the arm, runs fast enough so a guy with a mountain bike can't catch him? Hmmmm
