ARBIL, Iraq (AFP) - The director of the Iraqi Red Crescent in the Kurdish city of Arbil and his wife have been found dead in the main northern city of Mosul.

The bodies of Barzan Omar Ahmad and his wife Sazane Ismail Abdullah, who also works at the Red Crescent, were discovered late Friday on a street in Hay al-Intisar in Mosul, Red Crescent spokesman Hawar Fares said Saturday.

Would this be the same red crescent that allows their ambulances to be used to transport palestinian murderers to suicide targets in Israel? I will hold my sympathy in check until these two are cannonized..

Was he Kurdish? That would explain it. Of course, being based in Arbil, that would make him a Kurdish sympathizer, at least.

There are so many rags killing so many rags that I can't always see the significance of the associations. So, are Kurds suspected of killing Red "Crescent" leaders here and, if so, why? Or is this a case of Sunnis killing them, or what?

No wonder the Iraqi Police force and security are turning tails and running. If we don't get a stronger police force in Iraq they will never have peace in their country. Maybe we need the NYPD to recruit the Iraqis and weed out the cowards.

Iraq couldn't afford the union overhead.

Oh I agree. But it sickens me to see their police force cutting and running. How would you like to see your police force start laying down their weapons and running everytime there is a situation.

Exactly. I live in NYC and the day that the NYPD ever cuts and runs will be the day I move out of this country. Why are our nation's police force sooo brave and their country's so cowardly? Its the people they are recruiting.

Confusing. Were they also Kurds? (I don't know enough about names in that part of the world to be able to tell.)

I have this gut feeling they only joined for the money and not to protect. I truly believe they are not people who want to uphold the law but people who just wanted a job and power. But when it came down to upholding the law their yellow stripe popped up.

Seems to be a lot of this insanity going on over there An example being the Japanese hostages, two of whom are aide workers.
