There are so many rags killing so many rags that I can't always see the significance of the associations. So, are Kurds suspected of killing Red "Crescent" leaders here and, if so, why? Or is this a case of Sunnis killing them, or what?

Sunni Baathists are killing them, as moderates and peacemakers. Targeting anyone reasonable that bridges political divides is a typical terrorist move, designed to radicalize populations, sow hatred and division, and force everyone into little objective social categories chosen by the killers, as the only things that matter. People who act as individuals, consideration of behavior, moral principle, reasonableness - they want to kill all of that. Terror war is one of the ugliest things human beings can do. This is an example of why. It winds up setting people the task of going out and doing the most unprincipled and disgusting thing they can think of, in cold blood.

Generally, the evil and violent ones are killing the moderate and decent ones.

Rec Crescent has been abused/politicized in the west bank, but not sure if that is the case here. Recall that A-Q terrorists bombed the red crescent building in October.
