We've all done it. You've just gotten home, logged on to FR, and are scrolling down the "Latest Posts" page, deciding which thread will get your attention this evening, when THAT SCREENNAME jumps out at you in a "to" or "from" position. You are powerless to resist; if THAT GUY's there, it's gonna be a good thread...
All of us have our own "favorites" among the many colorful souls who congregate at this fine website. They could be someone you disagree totally with, agree completely with, or somewhere in between. They might be a fount of useful information, links, and facts. Our favorite might be devastating at the art of debate; demolishing opponents in truly unique style, or he might be just plain nuttier than squirrel dung, but fun nonetheless.
Perhaps your favorite FReeper has a way with words; an excellent writer. Maybe they are someone highly experienced in a particular field, with knowledge that many do not posess. Maybe they're dumber than a bag of hammers.
Point is, no matter what the reason, our "favorite FReepers"' handle attached to a thread makes it all the more interesting to us; it guarantees a wild ride or sublime pleasure in the reading and learning. It may also guarantee an increase in blood pressure and indigestion, but one thing's for sure...that thread HE's on is gonna get a hit or two, and it won't be boring.
I've got more than a few of my own, and I'm sure all of you do as well. WHO'S YOURS?????????????????

I couldn't possibly mention all my favorites, but my own chapter has to take the Gold for me: they come from far away and stand in the cold and chant and sing holding signs and flags till they're weak and hoarse. They are also tireless workers behind the scenes of every Tri-State freep, doing all the stuff that never gets seen on the forum.

But are we all in agreement on DO NOT GET MST3K THE MOVIE - This Island Earth ???
Admittedly, I never saw it, but only because I was repeatedly warned by fellow Mistys that it should be avoided at any cost.
Also, I'm still waiting for my videos of "Mike Nelson Lord of the Dance" and "The Nature of Bobo" which I ordered durring the Pearl T.V. pledge drive. Anyone else get stiffed?

My list has remained about the same for a few years now.
You are all still here except MadIvan.
Thank you for the informative and funny posts, the wise observations and the great banter. I have learned more from you all than you will ever know. I am always lurking, although I don't post much anymore.

I did not realize that the Chancellor was gone. What happened?
To: CobaltBlue
That's a very good question. I've never gotten the entire story. It had something to do with the Terri Schiavo threads- he apparently went over the top during that whole thing. He came back, briefly, under another screen name (he FReepmailed me) but that name also got banned after a while.
I have heard talk over at LP that he's still on FR under a different screen name, but that he's keeping a low profile.

I am forbidden to: -- "ping, bump, freepmail, or make reference to XXXXXXXXX again." THAT is absolutely hilarious. You mean there is some pansy out there that hasn't figured out how to ignore posters that annoy them???

Terri Schiavo? Wow. That's certainly a topic that could cause hard feelings.
Most Freepers want her kept alive, so if that was his position he'd be in the majority, but even if he had a principled reason for letting her die, can't imagine him losing it bad enough to get kicked off.

Correction: that account was apparently also nuked. The thread on which oph, CP, normative et al posted has also been nuked, with a warning to posters to discontinue attacks on the DC Chapter.

and PJ Comix for his lit. discussions and all the rest you guys have mentioned. Thanx (next discussion is about All The King's Men). I used to get chuckles out of A+Bert's posts.

I wonder how much more there is to the story. His behavior on the Schiavo thread is pretty bad, but I can't see that getting him banned, by itself. It was probably just the straw that broke the camel's back.

It was probably just the straw that broke the camel's back. I'm guessing you're right. Of course, anytime someone returns under a new screenname they're probably held to a higher standard (I never understood why he was allowed back under a duplicate screenname in the first place, but that's not my call).
To: Modernman
I'd venture a guess that he was banned, not for how he expressed himself, but for the content of his speech, which is unusual on Free Republic. Most Freepers get bounced for bad language and/or bad behavior. I don't agree with his position but I wouldn't have banned him for what he said.
Oh, well, it's a private forum.
To: Modernman
It could be a combination of things, you're right. My memory isn't as good as I'd like for it to be, but wasn't there also something going on with "Roy's Rock" around then? I remember feeling rather nervous back then, myself, that I was stepping on too many toes and should phrase things very carefully.
To: NittanyLion
Why were there attacks on the DC chapter? I missed that, too.
To: CobaltBlue
I'm not sure I should rehash it on the open forum, since the thread was pulled. My opinion is that there are a few folks who attack the DC Chapter because they believe doing so raises them to the same stature as some of the DC Chapter members.
I try not to get involved...
