Clinton Denies Taped Bin Laden Admission, Blames 'Misquote'
NewsMax.com ^ | April 9, 2004 | Carl Limbacher

During his private interview with the 9/11 Commission on Thursday, ex-President Bill Clinton denied that he told a New York business group in 2002 that he turned down an offer from Sudan for Osama bin Laden's extradition to the U.S., according to 9/11 Commissioner Bob Kerrey.

"Bill Clinton said yesterday that, that was a misquote," Kerrey told WDAY Fargo, North Dakota radio host Scott Hennen, in an interview set for broadcast on Monday.

A transcript of the exchange between Hennen and Kerrey was read on the air by national radio host Sean Hannity late Friday. It shows that the 9/11 Commission was unaware that Clinton's bombshell admission that he spurned the bin Laden offer had been recorded by NewsMax.

After Kerrey said Clinton had denied the quote, Hennen said, "But wait a minute - I heard it in his own voice. I've heard him say it. I have the tape of him saying just that."

"Really?" said a perplexed Kerrey. "Well, then - ship it to me, because Clinton said yesterday [in private 9/11 testimony] that he didn't have a recollection of that."

Clinton made the bombshell admission to the Long Island Association on Feb. 15, 2002. Though the LIA videotaped his appearance, the group has refused requests for copies from NBC News, Fox News and NewsMax.

Though NewsMax has the only publicly available recording of Clinton's remarks that day, they were also reported by Newsday the next day.

Transcript of Clinton's admission:

We'd been hearing that the Sudanese wanted America to start dealing with them again.

They released him. At the time, 1996, he had committed no crime against America so I did not bring him here because we had no basis on which to hold him, though we knew he wanted to commit crimes against America.

So I pleaded with the Saudis to take him, 'cause they could have. But they thought it was a hot potato and they didn't and that's how he wound up in Afghanistan. [End of Excerpt]

Doggone tape recorders !
I liked Bob Kerrey's remarks that Clinton had been "open and candid" in his testimony to the commission. Guess we know what Kerrey's definition of honest is when it comes to BJ.

I mean Sudan is a death zone for Christians - why would we trust them to hand over Osama?

Doesn't matter now whether they would have or wouldn't have. He chose not to pursue it.

Clinton caught in another lie thanks to Hennen/Hannity/NewsMax! Good job.
Now, now... don't get excited. Democrats can lie. It's a perfectly acceptable behavior for them to engage in. It's mean-spirited, ignorant, red-necked, cowboy-ish Republicans and their ilk who may not engage in lying.

You know Richard Clarke has said x42 gave orders to kill Bin Laden. The only question he hasn't answered is when. So either Clarke or Clinton is lying.

Sooooo .. after being "enthralled" for 4 hours with Clinton's presence, the impeached former president continues his lying.

Geeeeeeeeeeee .. is any of his testimony worth anything at all resembling the truth??

When are you INSANE people going to stop regarding anything Clinton says as the truth. To do so says you're insane - you keep expecting him to be truthful .. HE NEVER WILL BE.

Clinton says WHAT HE WANTS YOU TO HEAR - HE NEVER SAYS THE TRUTH, unless it will bring him victim status .. just like Hillary.

Whenever he slithers back into the public and speaks, I am quickly reminded of the intense, 8-year repulsion. It doesn't take much to bring it all back.

I will BOOK any Bets from Freepers who say CLINTON will be accused and charged with PERJURY by the 911 Commission. I will give 2-1 odds. I will give even money the MAINSTREAM media does NOT run with this with the vigor of Dick Clarkes testimony or the AUG 6 memo.

Isn't Kerrey the one who called Clinton, "an unusually good liar"?

I suppose Clinton's testimony isn't so private any more in Kerrey's mind, huh? At least not the stuff that, out of context, would tend to exonerate Clinton . . . assuming you believed anything Clinton said.

"Bill Clinton said yesterday that, that was a misquote," Kerrey told WDAY Fargo, North Dakota radio host Scott Hennen, in an interview set for broadcast on Monday.

Did Clinton say it was misquote, or did he say he didn't "recollect"?

Clinton lying is nothing new, but why is Bob Kerrey making stuff up to cover for him?

Sweep what under the rug? All I said I find it a stretch that Sudan, an ally of Al-Qaeda and a killer of millions of Christians would turn over their pal Bin Laden. I think if there was negotiations it was a delaying tactic to get Osama out of Sudan. Uncle Sam the idiot was suckered.

Sudan was never ever going to hand anyone to Washington especially Osama. The problem was that we were negotiating with Sudan - a sign of cupidity and stupidity - when we should have sent in a kill team.

The scandal is that we negotiated and actually thought Sudan would hand OBL over not that Clinton failed to get Sudan to hand him over. You people actually think those negotiations were legit? Would have paid off?

Okay, so this guy wouldn't know the truth if it had its lips locked around his... well, that's beside the point.

I've heard this "damning" charge thrown about and it has always made me wonder - what would we have done with OBL in '96? It has always been my understanding that we hadn't even linked him to '93 WTC at that point.

Not disputing billyjeff's taped statement, but can someone tell me what other options we had?
