US marines pressing an offensive in this Iraqi town west of Baghdad bombed a mosque in the center of the town Wednesday and killed up to 40 insurgents inside, a marine officer said.
The attack came from a jet aircraft at a high angle to minimize the impact, the officer said.
"We wanted to kill the people inside," said Lieutenant Colonel Brennan Byrne.

This is his second tour of duty. He was in Iraq for six months. He came home, and his wife had their baby. Now he's in Fallajah. He'll come home again to that new son of his, I'm sure!
Thanks for the prayers.

"but why can't the other branches of the armed forces join in the fun?"
Don't forget the Navy and Air Force pilots providing air cover. And the Army is in Baghdad fighting there.

"By the way, I can't remember wails of protest when Allied bombers destroyed some of the most beautiful cathedrals in Europe during WWII. And, the Germans weren't even hiding troops and arms in them!"
Well, not only were things not so PC then, but in a PC world today, ONLY the Nazis were ever, ever, ever, the "Evil 1s" - no1 else was ever such a bad guy as Hitler, in liberal land, and no group was ever as twisted as Germans. They are the only 1s that could ever be called evil, and they are thus the only 1s ever "fair game".
In liberal land, *no1* else, you know, ever deserves to be, eh, "beaten up" or even called names. (Oops, unless its Americans.)

Interesting weapon:
Based on the civilian 700 Remington, an excellent rifle:
M40A1 Sniper Rifle
The M40A1 sniper rifle is based on the Remington model 700. It is a heavy barrel, bolt action, magazine fed 7.62mm rifle that is optimized for accuracy with Match Grade ammunition. The rifle is equipped with a special 10 power Unertl sniper scope. With scope, the rifle weighs approximately 14.5 pounds. It is equipped with a built-in five round magazine. This weapon is hand-made by specially trained and qualified armorers at Quantico, Virginia. The unique characteristics of the M40A1 Sniper Rifle are: commercial competition-grade heavy barrel, McMillan fiberglass stock and butt pad, modified Winchester Model 70 floorplate and trigger guard, and modified and lightened trigger. In addition, each stock is epoxy bedded for accuracy and all weapons must shoot less than one minute of angle (MOA). The M40A1 was put into service in the 1970s to meet the need of a long range sniper rifle. Each rifle is hand built by specially trained and qualified personnel at the Marine Corps Marksmanship Training Unit (MTU) at Quantico, Virginia.

"When asked about the problems there, one Soldier said that he felt the folks thought that instantly all would be wonderful with jobs and rebuilding - he said they were frustrated that there were still problems going on and were just blaming America for those problems."
It's amazing how we are both evildoers and gods in 1 to alot of "others". To these extremely naive people we are supposed to wave a wand and everything changes in 1 day? This is also, cynically, what liberals expect - altho I think it's more hyperbolic, just so they can complain when things aren't done in that proverbial 1 day.

I stand corrected..... maybe I read the military had looked at the 7 mag. a while back. Anyway, you gotta like the look on those soldiers' faces.... "We've got a job to do!"
I like the idea of using more snipers in cities..though heavy, the McMillan 88 (50 cal?) can get their attention. I'm hoping GW has dropped the reigns now to let our guys go after the insurgents....especially ones from other countries.

IIRC, he's with the AP. I hope he does now, if he didn't before, have respect for what our guys go through.

Anyone that gets mad about this is doing exactly as the loyal Bathist party wants. In other words, they are useful idiots for the bad guys.

rat butt-boy!
He was so openly hostile and biased against Karen Hughes last night that is was pathetic!
She didn't let his anti-GWB rhetoric get her, she made him look like the small, desperate, evil, little rat troll that he is ~ she was great!
We are winning ~ the bad guys are losing ~ trolls, terrorists, democrats and the mainstream media are sad ~ very sad!

I wrote this a little over a year ago before the start of the war. Thought it might be appropriate to repost about now:
My Prayer in this Troubled Time
May our troops have:
The bravery and patriotism of Wallace
The character, intelligence and luck of Washington
The fearlessness and boldness of Patton
The swiftness of Alexander the Great
The good aim of Sergeant York
The coolness under fire of Teddy Roosevelt
The determination and logistical ability of Eisenhauer
The patience of Andrew Jackson
The perseverence of Grant
The genius of Stonewall Jackson
The ability of Robert E. Lee
The faith of Abraham
The invulnerability and success of David
The unswerving support and prayers of the American people
And above all, the blessing of the Lord of Hosts!

It is not fun... It is business. Professional business. The Marines have been getting ready for this fight since 1998 when they did the Urban Warrior Experiments to determine how to best use all the modern means to assist in the MOUT fight. The result was train, train, train, and that is what every Marine battalion did this winter at Camp Pendleton. They have the skills and the knowledge.
Don't take anything away from the Army Infantry (82nd, 101st, 3ID, 4ID, etc.) they are pros too. The Marines had General Chuck Krulack as CMC with the vision 6 years ago that this fight was inevitable. We just need to let them do their job and trust them that they will not kill innocents if it can be avoided. They will win no matter what the cost... or die trying.

Now they can reconstruct a "church or synagogue" on that vacant lot.
Or Hooters! Maybe they just need to lighten up with decent food and attractive women in short shorts.
