A Pentagon source has said up to 130 US troops have been killed in fierce fighting in Iraq.
The large scale battle, described as "intense", has taken place in the town of Ar Ramadi, 20 miles west of Fallujah.
Sky News' David Chater said: "None of this is official yet - none of it is confirmed."
But he added: "It sounds very much like this is being carried out by men who are militarily trained."
Chater described the attack as "highly sophisticated".

I like when our guys were going into towns yelling insults directed towards terrorists.
The terrorists would come out screaming and I heard they made great target practice.

Need some kind of confirmation of this. The local talk radio over here is already going nuts. If these reports are false (I hope they are) need info.

Fox is saying 12 with 20 injured
I've also seen 118 enemy killed in one battle, and 64 in another from other reports.
A guy on Fox (former Ranger) said this is the perfect unit to have in Iraq. These troops have been training for months for this exact type of warfare. Seems to me that we expected this type of resistance to happen just before the turn over in June.
Remember .. the surprise attack is over! We are now on alert and they will not be able to surprise us again.

On the other thread, the long one about Sadr, it said the Spectre was coming in tonight. One mean fighting machine from what I gathered. Go check out the other thread, as I'm no expert.

Rumsfeld said U.S. troops have captured a number of people in Fallujah in the last 36 hours."Captured"??
That's depressing.

We had better start fighting a war free from political concerns. If we have to lay waste to Falujah, so be it. I'm concerned that our leaders are starting to weigh the "political cost" of military action. That time has passed. The decision to wage war made with political considerations. Now that we are at war, our job is to kick ass and save our servicemen's lives. Bring in the air power. 1,000 dead Iraqis are not worth the life of a single U.S. serviceman's.

12 Marines Reported Dead in Ramadi Attack
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=540&ncid=716&e=2&u=/ap/20040406/ap_on_re_mi_ea/us_iraq_deaths WASHINGTON - Up to a dozen Marines were reported killed in new fighting in Iraq (news - web sites), the Pentagon (news - web sites) said Tuesday.
Reports from the field said dozens of Iraqis attacked a Marine position near the governor's palace in Ramadi, a senior defense official said.
"A significant number" of Marines were killed, and initial reports indicated it might be up to a dozen, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Heavy casualties were inflicted on the insurgents as well, officials said.
It was not immediately known who the attackers were, nor whether the attack was related to fighting under way in nearby Fallujah.
In Fallujah, Marines were pressing an assault promised after the killings and mutilations of four American civilians there last week.

Check the above thread. From appearances it looks like SKY news reversed the numbers the 130 is possibly enemy losses. The radio station is going nuts way too soon. ACCURATE facts probably won't be out until tomorrow.

I think it is time to stop discussing our military efforts in the political correct terms of "surgical, sensitive to collateral damage, precision, proportional" We need sudden and overwhelming force to clean out the areas. Carpet bomb from above and let the Marines just do the body count. I'd rather lose another 1000 of them (any of them) to one more Marine or GI.

Our commanders were pulling people who normally don't go into combat because the battle was so hot......
Oh, oh, I can hear it now - Bush didn't have sufficient troops in this area and our soldiers were sacrificed unnecessarily.
I think I'm going to be sick.
