US Secretary of State Colin Powell rebuked a leading Democratic senator for comparing the war in Iraq to Vietnam and suggesting President George W. Bush's policies had incited hatred against the United States.
In a rare foray into politics, Powell said Senator Ted Kennedy, an outspoken Bush opponent and supporter of Democratic presidential hopeful John Kerry, should be "more restrained and careful" when discussing Iraq and the war on terrorism.
At the same time, Powell also stressed that American democracy was enhanced by debate and admitted that he had not seen all of the Monday speech in which Kennedy made the comments.
"I was in Haiti and didn't see the whole speech, but I must say that Senator Kennedy, I think, should be a little more restrained and careful in his comments because we are at war," Powell said in an interview on a nationally syndicated radio broadcast.

As Secretary of State, Powell can't really lay the wood to Kennedy, I suppose. But I would like to see a major Republican take the gloves off and go a few rounds with that bloated drunken fool.

Hey, that's a cheap shot!! Powell must know that Kennedy "Has no specific recolection of the circumstances surrounding the war in Viet Nam." It just is not right to be critical of an alcoholic who regularly suffers from the DTs and is usually blind drunk. He doesn't even remember the fact that his brother started the darned war and concealed it from Congress and the American people for the years before he was replaced.

Bush already told Powell once to stick to the State Department, and leave the politics to him and Cheney. So I guess Powell would be a bit restrained in his comments. It's tough to do though when you have to deal with a gasbag like Kennedy.

I have been wondering if Kennedy is starting this "Iraq is Vietnam" in order to set the stage for Vietnam Kerry to claim he's the only one who can rescue Iraq from becomming another Vietnam?
Your thoughts?

Sean Hannity played that JFK speech tonight on his show in response to Ted Kennedy's blasting of Bush.
Why in the world did Bush ever suck up to Kennedy in the first place is my question - didn't he know this would be coming sooner or later?

I don't understand it either. The Bush's have bent over backwards to be nice to the Kennedy's. Dubya have been repeatedly stabbed in the back in return. I copied your note in #10 there, Joe6. Sent it to fat teddy at his Senate email address.
