Updated FR Excerpt and Link Only or Deny Posting List due to Copyright Complaints

Note: Don't post anything at all from the Las Vegas Review Journal or anything from organizations run by Stevens Media, LLC or RightHaven, LLC until the lawsuit brought against us by them is resolved.

Here's an updated alphabetical list of the sites that have complained about copyright violations thus far. The posting program will only allow excerpts and or deny posting where designated from the following sites:

These sites must be excerpted and linked only [300 words or less, 1/2 the words or less for short articles]:

These publishers have asked us not to allow any material at all to be posted to FR:

Received another letter from Gannett Publications, publisher of USAToday, and several other newspapers. Due to contractual arrangements they have with third-party content providers, they have denied our request to allow posting of excerpts. They will only allow the posting of titles and links.

Please do not post full text or even excerpts from the following Gannett Web sites:

All material from the Associated Press must be excerpted regardless of source (very brief excerpts). AP photos are not allowed.

Photographs, pictures, images, graphs etc may not be posted if the websites are on the lists or added in any of the posts below.

Is The Foreigner allowed?

It seems to have several country outlets. Like this:

Why do articles by Victor Davis Hanson have to be excerpted, that are from other sources then The Chicago Tribune, like Townhall.com, or JWR which do not claim copyright.The Press And Dr. Faustus

Neither does VDH as far as I have noticed

and received a message about newswithviews.com is blocked. I first checked the copyright list and didn’t see this site mentioned, and a google search of FR shows links to this site, so I thought it was OK.

Is there a different list of blocked sites I should have checked?

So...should we be thinking of just posting links on everything?

That would seem to be the safest way to go.

Could this get quarterly or bi-annual updates with a note in the title line?

"Getty Images and many others, do not allow any of their photos to be posted to Free Republic. Please make note of it."

I've been looking for a way of identifying the source of images of unknown origin and just found a freeware program called "JPEGsnoop" that can identify the image source from metadata imbedded in the image file. It turns out that the popular "Irfanview" graphic viewer program can do the same and is easier to use.

This is probably not a fool proof method of identifying restricted images, but it might help.

Do we have a complete list of sites that are unwelcome on FR...such as InfoWars? If so, can I have the link. Thanks. I’m not able to find it, but I suspect it exists.

Just got a notice from the FReep mods about something I posted from Huston. Didn’t know about that, but I will be careful to steer clear of any of his stuff.

I just posted a very interesting article and link to a YouTube about an archery technique that was almost instantly pulled. Why? I see nothing about it that wold get it pulled. It had to do with historical methods of archery. . . and demonstrated the most amazing shooting with a bow and arrow I have ever seen, including the ability of the archer to hit and split an arrow aimed at him in mid flight using these technique. Is the source, wimp.com, one proscribed because of copyright but not programed with a warning?
