I can't think of a single way Aspies are luckier than the rest of us. But I do appreciate your sentiments.

Do you know yet how doctors treat AS? medications?
To: Beren
You are ignorant, and heartless. That's your only excuse.

They ought to change the locks. Or move while he's gone.
My sister was SO destructive that I have actually severed ties with my immediate family over her. ( they were physically abusive, both to her and to me and all that did was make her worse) She is violent and too dangerous to be around for my kid. And she won't stay on her meds.
She likes weapons. Has been jailed for assaulting a cop.
She's crazy, but she's cute, so she played on the cop's sympathy, he let her go.
She's mean as cat-pee and usually gets away with it cold. She has about ruined several lives, including mine with her antics.
So I upped and moved and left no address, to keep my little girl safe. I keep a loaded shot-gun just for my sister, though.

I don't think Seiler's been diagnosed yet, so calls she be held accountable for perpetrating a hoax are completely appropriate unless overwhelming evidence is presented that she is not of sound mind.
I really don't think most here would ever mock mental illness itself, and it ought not be wielded automatically as exculpation for misdeeds.
I'm withholding judgement because how the hell do I know what's going on? But your bashing is unwarranted, IMO.

My son is 12 and for seven years we thought he had ADHD(per diagnosis of the AF docs). then we began seeing a civilian doc. and he continued along the ADHD route. But nothing seemed to work so they tack on Oppositional-defiant d/o. But than I was is the waiting room and found info regarding Asperger's and it was like they were talking about my son. Currently they are continuing with Concerta and behavior mod. I'm trying to get info but it's not easy to find.

Prayers for you and your son. The utter lack of sympathy some people exhibit for those with neurological problems is, itself, a clear symptom of their own, usually more serious, neurological problems.
To: wirestripper
So.. you're gonna excuse all crimes committed by mentally ill people? That is exactly what our legal system does in many cases.
Not really. Usually, they get locked up in mental hospitals until "cured." See: John Hinckley Jr.
To: tiamat
Wow... that's terrible.
Before I started dating my now husband, he was seeing a girl who is paranoid schizophrenic. He broke up with her because she would not take her meds and she became violent. She found out that he had asked me out and started looking for someone to kill us both. Her parents found out and moved her to another city. I still wonder about her and I still worry that she's still ticked off.
I understand where you're coming from. This young girl will get LOTS of sympathy and kum-ba-yah. But I'm sure she probably won't get the help she really needs... and she needs a strong punishment as well.

I keep a loaded shot-gun just for my sister, though.I had a younger brother who was the same way basically.
Threatened my life and limb because I tried to have him commited to a hospital.
He died a few years back of a OD.
We just could not help him.
There was no options but to let him hit the wall.

I've had a nervous breakdown.
Screwed me up for a year.
I'm also a chronic depressive, was on Zoloft for 6 months after 9-11, had a REALLY sucky child-hood, and have been diagnosed with Post Trautaumatic Stress Syndrome.
I have a spinal curvature and a bum hip and have had major surgery 13 times. I've got metal rods in my back right now.
I ought to be getting a free ride in life, according to Society, because it's not my Fault.
Guess what? I don't pull stuff like this and I never have.
I can also tell right from wrong, and I'm a good Mom.
Kick her butt. Hard.

When folk automatically mock and scorn and deride the mentally ill, as many have done on this thread, it tends to piss me off. It's heartless, and ignorant.

Tiamat, I have a brother that sounds similar. I have not isolated myself from him however he does live far away thank god and if he did come to visit I would not let my children alone with him. My brothers luck did not come from being cute though, his daddy ( my daddy) always bailed the punk out. Now he is in his 30s and perhaps one of the most unproductive members of society I have ever witnessed.
Enough sadness with him to go around : (

But I'm sure she probably won't get the help she really needs... and she needs a strong punishment as well.I am positive she WILL get the help she needs. We don't know enough yet to reach a conclusion a strong punishment is due. It may well not be. But help? Yes, she'll get it.

Have you been taking your meds?Beren, I would say I hope you never have to suffer the torment of mental illness in your family, but looks like it's already hit hard...IN YOU.
