Ah! A bouyancy problem! Good thinking!

First thoughts: if it was symmetrical fore/aft then probably pretty hard since a carrier should be able to stay bouyant even with the hangar decks awash (in a ship properly secured for bad weather). More toward either end and it might be possible: the more fore/aft imbalance you have makes things nasty. Not to mention all the loose mass wanting to go 'downhill' adding to the imbalance. It would probably all happen very quickly and if they're not buttoned up tight they could take on too much water...

How about a nuclear device inside a old feighter that docks in the home port of the KH? What kind of defense can the carrier put up while in its own port? Or visiting a foreigh port-of-call?

I don't know. I've never had the pleasure to serve our country in that capacity, so I know almost nothing about ships and the Navy in general. It just seemed to me it's more likely to be an inside job. My opinion is an uninformed one, I'm afraid.

I agree. OTOH, if an American Airlines 747 is vectored in filled with American citizens, will the Carrier Group respond as they should? I hope so, but I wonder. On top of that, assume arguendo the 'suitcase nuke' scenario. A FedEx package or other freight transport could do them in. Remember the "Q" ships of WWI?

That is if they can find enough Testor's glue to finish their Revell model...

Overdue, imho.

Perhaps we could relegate them to . . . fat rendering at a pig farm?

But those with lit matches or a severe sinus condition have probably gone where few would dare tread out of shear desperation I am sure.

Amen.

Though I think God is reserving Syria for some very special destruction of HIS direct engineering.

Perhaps we could be His tool but it just doesn't feel like quite yet, for Syria. Sadly, imho.

Please see post #144. That was just my own guess. I'm by no means an authority on aircraft carriers.

Approaching the midnight hour at your house...
I know insomnia will hit me tonight.
It's been one of those days that cause it.

Perhaps some sort of attack based out of North Korea? Surely North Korea wouldn't be *that* dumb.

Good find....The story read like a mystery and had me on the edge of my seat, then came the punch line.....The Clinton administration downplayed the incident.....That must have been some downplaying!

South China Sea? Or still in DSRA?

"Kitty Hawk returned to Yokosuka May 6, 2003, immediately entering an extensive dry-dock period, or dry-docking ship's restricted availability (DSRA)."

I don't have any doubts that our team put together a good policy about that by mid morning on 9-11.
