FBI Papers on Kerry Stolen from Marin County Author
KPIX/KCBS/Yahoo News ^ | 3/26/04 | Sue McGuire

North Bay man who had uncovered evidence the FBI (news - web sites) tailed presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) for months in 1971 says some of the files were stolen this week.

Author Gerald Nicosia told police Friday that three of fourteen boxes of once secret FBI files he obtained through the Freedom of Information Act were taken from his Corte Madera home some time Thursday.

He says investigators do not have much hope in finding the missing files. "They said it would be almost impossible to try to track fingerprints because we did have CNN people handling the boxes and with the amount of people that have handled the boxes it's almost impossible to get any useable prints off of it. Basically they showed me how the guys got into my house but beyond that there's not much they can do," Nicosia said.

It was the Los Angeles Times that first reviewed some of the author's documents and reported it in the March 23rd edition that FBI closely monitored Kerry's post war activism.

If he obtained them once through the FOIA, he can get them again. Just cost and hassle.

I'm surprised the RATs haven't blamed 41 for all this, as he was CIA director sometime around then. Of course, that doesn't mean anything, but neither does anything else they use as "evidence."

Are they kept there as backup? Or is there one set that was transferred from the FBI?

Assuming they are still there and can be located in a reasonable time. Was surprised to hear info on law enforcement ops released via FOIA. Normally these are redacted or refused altogether.

Let me see if I have this right. The fact that Kerry attended a meeting of the VVAW where the option of assassinating Senators was discussed, is not news, but the fact that the FBI might have trailed Kerry for this very reason, is.

Something doesn't add up... If they can easily be retrieved, why would someone go through the trouble of stealing them?

You NEVER send originals to anyone under FOIA -- all oringinal copies remain the property of the US Government. Sometiems on FOIA copies, parts will be blacked out to protect people as well.

Yea, this is much ado about nothing.
Whats the big deal on missing some unclassified papers.

Now, if he had bought them from the Hildabeast, they would
still be secret and I could see why he would raise a stink.

That's the L.A. Times's concept of what constitute news in operation for the whole world to see. It was a very crude attempt to bend readers' minds to believe the act of trying to catch a bunch of possible assassins was the real "crime." It's Orwellian but there are plenty of suckers ready to take the bait..

I would never have let it become known publicly that I had any such copies in my posession. Anyone would know that the very least that might happen to you would be the papers being stolen. He is lucky his house wasn't burned down as the cause of paper loss.

I would expect there is no way the originals with the FBI are made available again before the election, if indeed they still exist.

I think it took something like ten or 11 years for him to get all that information.
