New Hamas chief vows 'no security' for Israel
Hamas figure Abdelaziz Rantissi vowed Israel will "not know security" after being named leader of the radical Islamist movement following the Israeli assassination of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin.
"[Prime Minister Ariel] Sharon and the Israelis will not know security," he told thousands of Hamas supporters gathered here to extend their condolences for Yassin.
"We will fight them until the liberation of Palestine, the whole of Palestine."
Dr Rantissi, considered a hardliner within the Islamist group, called on the military wing of Hamas - the Ezzedin al-Qassam Brigades - to "teach Israel a lesson".
"We tell the Ezzedin al-Qassam Brigades: you must teach a lesson to the enemy ... the door is open for you to strike all places, all the time and using all means," he said.
"This enemy must come to the realisation that we fear nothing."
Speaking to AFP after his statement, Dr Rantissi said "the Qassam Brigades have been tasked with avenging Sheikh Yassin, and we are confident they will be able to teach this enemy a lesson he will not forget."
Senior Hamas official Ismail Haniya had earlier announced that Dr Rantissi had been chosen as the official deputy to Yassin before his death.
"As a consequence, Dr Rantissi will take over from the sheikh as head of the movement," he told AFP.
The 56-year-old Rantissi, a paediatrician by training, is seen as one of the more hardline members of the movement.
He himself survived an Israeli assassination attempt last June, suffering leg, arm and chest wounds in a missile attack on his car in central Gaza City.
Speaking on Monday in the immediate aftermath of Sheikh Yassin's killing in an Israeli air strike in Gaza City, Dr Rantissi declared that war is "open" with Israel.
"Inside Palestine, there will be no security for the Zionists and Jews," he said.
Israeli Government spokesman Avi Pazner immediately denounced Dr Rantissi's appointment, calling him "one of the most extreme members of Hamas".
"He does not recognise Israel's right to exist and advocates violence and terrorism," Mr Pazner told AFP.
The Israeli army's chief of staff, Moshe Yaalon, had earlier said Sheikh Yassin's killing would serve to strengthen Palestinian moderates.
"For a short time it may strengthen the motivation to commit attacks but in the long run it will reinforce moderate (Palestinian) elements," the general told a security conference in Tel Aviv.

"We will fight them until the liberation of Palestine, the whole of Palestine." For those of you who still fail to get it, that does not mean the west bank and the Gaza strip. That means the whole kit and caboodle. The entire land of Israel.
Still think there ever was a possibility of a "peaceful solution"?

Rantissi is making a lot of noise just now. I hope it drowns out the sound of the missiles coming for him. NEXT!

If you listen closely, you can hear the sound of a fresh missile being armed for this clown, too.

He forgot to add, "Thanks to Hamas, Israel has not known peace, does not now know peace, and will never know peace." The Israelis will answer him quickly I'm afraid.

He must have cheesed off someone to be put in the position. One way to get rid of an irritating character. Nominate the beggar for head of Hamas. That'll do it. If I were him I'd step down, quickly. What kind of odds you give him to make it through thirty days?

If Israel's wall and security can control the homicide bombers, then the Pali's might not have any alternative then to fire missiles into Israel at which point Israel will have good reason to take the gloves off and bomb the Pali's. A real war is needed and these scumbag terrorists know it, that is one reason why they measure their attacks with homicide bombers.

I'll believe "war" when I see it.
We're supposed to be at war with terror. Hamas (you know, the TERROR organization) publicly declares war against the U.S. and I see the soldiers who mean to fight this war against us, on the front page of the NYPOST (bunched together like so many cockroaches at a cockroach funeral) in their masks and with their guns, and there is no evidence in the picture of MOAB devastation or strafing runs or firebombing...nothing!
So I'll believe "war" when I see it.

So in other words, they are dumping the same old rhetoric after Yassin's assassination, as they were before it... surprise, surprise!

They want to slaughter the Jews! <yawn At least the new Chief Terrorhoid's honest about his designs. No one can claim he's been mistranslated, misunderstood, or that he's a "closet moderate."
