Ted helping Kerry fight Bush whacks

WASHINGTON - John Kerry's campaign turned once more to "proud liberal" Sen. Edward Kennedy yesterday to stick up for the Democrat after a week of withering Republican attempts to define him as a flip-flopping, tax-raising liberal.

The Kerry camp also for a second week in a row employed Howard Dean in the role of leading surrogate even though the ex-Vermont anti-war governor excoriated the Massachusetts junior senator in the primaries.

But the curious unleashing of the lefties at times did nothing to deflect Vice President Cheney's recent claims that deposed dictator Saddam Hussein would still be in command in Iraq if Kerry were President.

Kennedy (D-Mass.) said that, in spite of Kerry's October 2002 vote in the Senate to give Bush authority to wage war in Iraq, his man would have let weapons inspectors complete their jobs.

"If John Kerry had been President of the United States with that vote, we never, I don't believe, [would have] gone to war, certainly not at that time," he told NBC's "Meet the Press."

"He would have worked through the inspection system," Kennedy said. U.S. inspections after the war found no weapons of mass destruction.

Team Kerry found itself on the defensive after the Bush campaign struck back in coordinated strikes last week that pounded the candidate as a serial tax raiser who will not properly prosecute the war on terror.

Dean slammed Team Bush for casting doubts about how well Kerry, a decorated Vietnam combat vet who was wounded three times, would protect the nation if elected President. Bush, Cheney and their top defense advisers "collectively have never served a day overseas in their entire lives," Dean said.

"They don't mind sending people to die," he told CBS' "Face the Nation."

"[Kerry] is a guy I trust to defend America and go after the right enemy, not the wrong enemy."

Kerry apparently was warned by Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) not to vote against another Senate bill that Republicans say proves he's a flip-flopper, legislation last fall giving Bush $87 billion to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan, Newsweek reported.

Kerry at the time was behind Dean in polls and gunning for the party's anti-war vote.

I think it was on Jay Leno--FoxNews, as I recall, had a clip from Jay Leno--Mr. Kerry is walking into a roomful of people, passes Mr. Kennedy, and as Mr. Kerry is passing the senior senator from Massachusetts, Ted's eyes dart down toward the junior senator's bottom (arse).

Kerry was in Viet Nam? Really? and he was wounded? Did he get any medals? I had not heard about this before.

Seriously, here's a sound bite from me:
John Kerry spent 4 months in Vietnam fighting against the communist cause - and 30 years afterward fighting FOR the communist cause.

Oh, I forgot, the Cold War was nothing but the machination of the right-wing owned military-industrial complex. And flying sophisticated aircraft isn't as courageous as commanding a swift boat in the Mekong Delta. /sarcasm
