C-SPAN to Broadcast Old Kerry Anti-war Testimony
NewsMax ^

Posted on 03/21/2004 2:26:45 PM PST by GulliverSwift

John Kerry’s controversial anti-Vietnam War testimony is taking one step closer to haunting him during his presidential bid.

C-SPAN has announced that it plans to present it Sunday night at 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. EST.

This could be political dynamite for the liberal senator and presumptive Democratic nominee for president.

This is the testimony where Kerry, a young veteran of the Vietnam War, accused his fellow soldiers of a string of atrocities.

Since the April 22, 1971, testimony has come to light, Kerry has tried every way he knows to play it down or minimize it.

Sunday night, millions of Americans will have the opportunity to see it in the candidate's own words before Sen. William Fulbright's Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

(This was printed about Richard Clarke on Oct 10, 2001, but I cannot get the link just now.)

Experts have warned that hackers and terrorists could try and cripple systems — computer networks that monitor a city's water supply or air traffic, for example — to create further chaos.

Should such a crisis take place in cyberspace, Clarke would coordinate efforts with the private and commercial sectors to bring the affected systems back to normal.

Similar to his previous position as National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Counter-terrorism, Clarke will remain on the president's National Security Council. In his new role, he report to both National Security Advisory Condoleezza Rice and newly appointed Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge.

Clarke is a career member of the federal government's Senior Executive Service, having started there in 1973 in the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

Since May 1998, Clarke was the first National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Counter-terrorism.

In that position, he led U.S. government efforts on cyber-security — and on counter-terrorism, continuity of government operations, domestic preparedness for weapons of mass destruction, and international organized crime.

In the role of counter-terrorism czar, he will be replaced by retired four-star Gen. Wayne A. Downing. Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge will serve above Clarke and Downing in the new role as the president's Homeland Security adviser.

Clarke became well-known for his use of the phrase "electronic Pearl Harbor," when predicting the implications of a cyber-terrorist attack. Critics say he overstates the threat, perhaps as a tactic to win greater attention, support and resources for government computer defense capabilities.

In the elder Bush's administration, Clarke was the Assistant Secretary of State for Politico-Military Affairs. In that capacity, he coordinated State Department support of Desert Storm and led efforts to create a post-war security architecture. Clarke was appointed to the National Security Council staff in 1992.

In the Reagan administration, Clarke was Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Intelligence.

Clarke is a graduate of Boston Latin School, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Years later when senator kerry headed a committee hearing on Vietnam POWs, he discounted there being any more left in spite of evidence to the contrary. He was supposed to submit a report on the committee's findings, but HE DESTROYED THE RECORDS.

Bump to that.

I do think he will get the nomination, but he will be so weakened, he will not run in 2008 (if he lives that long). The only other thing I see, is picking Hillary as VP and doing the switch hitting for 2008. Hillary needs a rollover like Clark to run.

"Now he is saying that blacks were killed in higher proportion than others."

Why are no blacks(many of whom fought bravely in VietNam)pictured on Kerry's book cover?

The thing with the witch is, she's so power hungry it's scary. I put absolutely nothing past her. BUT, I CAN see her biding her time, now that I think about it, to get what she wants in the long run.

Why can't she get interested in the space program and fly away somewhere, for a looooooooooooooooong time???

Clarke is not correct that more blacks were killed in Vietnam. Burkett in STOLEN VALOR discounts this claim:During the ten-year periodofthe war,7,257 African-Americans diedinVietnam, or 12.r percntof the KIAs, slightlyunder their proportion in the population of draft-aged males. (Eighty-six percent of those killed were Caucasian; 1.5 percent were of other races.) An examination of the casulty records indicates that the highetrate for black servicemen ws 16 percent in 1965, and almost all of those killed were volumnteers in elite units, not reluctant draftees involuntarily assigned to combat units. Black casulty rates dipped under their proportion in the population in most other years. In 1969, the war's peak, black deaths accounted for `11.4 percent of the total. (p.454)

I remember the authors of Stolen Valor being interviewed on FNC and they said that the lies we were told about our vets was astounding. More vets owned homes than their non-veteran counterparts. More vets had better jobs and earned more $$ than their non-veteran counterparts. Etc.

There will be a special place in he!! for the presstitutes that told us all those lies and made people FRIGHTENED of our veterans as drug addicted murderers.

Molly, the Clintons were only in it for themselves; he wants to destroy this country.

I disagree. They want to destroy this country, too. I think we should despise them all equally. Kerry's just more naked in his aim.

Nobody at DU has a clue that this testimony could be damaging. Not one negative comment, not one worry that the American people might not take kindly to Kerry's accusations against fellow soldiers.

Somebody from DU tried to post here to correct our "distortion" of what Kerry said about raping, murdering etc but the mods banned him.
