It's a disgrace that you are the only one reporting this. You should write to Drudge and Foxnews.

Sounds like the NYPD tried to do its job but Protest Warrior had its own idea of how things should be.

Drudge seems to only get his breaking news anymore from FreeRepublic.If that's so, he's not doing a very good job of reading FR.

Well, I thought of that. It's like saying women in short skirts are asking for trouble. Strictly speaking, you are right. They had the right to march parallel with the peace lovers, and the peace lovers were wrong. But we have no trouble protesting when we obey the cops--and we still get our message out.

The left angle-bracket is interpreted by the browser as the start of a tag, so any text from the < thru the next > it finds isn't displayed. To make it show up, type this:
</sarcasm>
which produces
</sarcasm>
(But then how did I make "<" show up as "<" and not "<"? :-)

When Freeping violence-prone groups like "ANSWER", its a good idea to have your own security, wearing armbands or even special shirts. Head-knockers are
not a good idea. Ideally you want off-duty cops, if that's not possible ex-cops, ex-MPs, or anyone with a thick skin and some knowledge of crowd control should be good. Being big helps but it's not essential. The security people themselves probably shouldn't demonstrate and definitely shouldn't yell anything inflammatory.
The security people should work teamed up with someone with a video camera to record any conversations. The camera person could also have a walkie talkie or cell phone if you have more than one security team.
The odds are if you look prepared in this manner the totalitarian-wannabes will leave you alone. Keep in mind that they are essentially cowards. If they do and it cannot be defused, the camera provides evidence for later.

From what I understand Curtis was also observing the protest in NYC.
Here is a post by freeperfromnj from another thread. Thought you might find it interesting.
Did you see Curtis Sliwa there? He called in to Monica Crowley's WABC radio show from the site. He said he should have worn his rain gear because the anti-American pigs were spitting on him. He said they were carrying the Israeli flag with swastikas painted on them. He said there were some freepers there counterdemonstrating.

I was also assaulted at the rally in Los Angeles only the perp was quickly taken out of parade and arrested. I came to the rally with two teens (12 & 14) that I used to nanny for.
To make a long story short, I was standing with one them (14 yr old girl) when the "Peace" parade was going by we were at the corner of Hollywood and Highland and the LAPD had formed a line almost shoulder to shoulder to protect us. I was holding a sign that said "WE LOVE BUSH" my friend was holding a sign she made herself on cardboard "Support our troops protect the civil liberties of all" and this older guy wearing a Palestinian shall on his shoulders looked right at us and spit in our face.
Then 4 LAPD officers took him out right away and handcuffed him. Then one came over to us and asked if we were the one's spat on and if we wanted to press charges. We said "Yes". The police were very helpful to us all. The left were purposely trying to taunt them into police brutality.
