Southern California Members of Free Republic Rally at Hollywood and Highland in Hollywood, California
in Support of President George Bush and The Members of Our Military

Saturday - March 20th, 2004

RonDog and company planned this event and did an excellent job.  Early on Ron discussed issues on site with the police in advance of the full rally.
There was a very large police presence on scene.  They were friendly and helped out several times.

All photos below have blowup links proved just below.  Reasonable and obscene fairly accurately describes what you'll get with a click of the mouse.

Reasonable / Obscene - Reasonable / Obscene

In addition to the motor officers, there was a mounted contingent on scene.  Overhead a continous airborne presence was maintained.

Reasonable / Obscene - Reasonable / Obscene

It was great to be able to look around and see some of the icons that reinforce our values.  Our protesters came with signs and lots of energy.

Reasonable / Obscene - Reasonable / Obscene

On site today was a mobile resource in support of the U.S. and Israel.  Some of the best signs I've seen at our protests were present as well.

Reasonable / Obscene - Reasonable / Obscene

Our group was on message and loud enough to be heard quite well at the intersection.  Chants in support of Bush, our Troops and the Police were voiced.

Reasonable / Obscene - Reasonable / Obscene

As the A.N.S.W.E.R. rally closed in on the intersection, the police installed a cordon in front of our group, to keep the two groups appart.

Reasonable / Obscene - Reasonable / Obscene

Then the full brunt of the march hit the intersection at Hollywood and Highland.  It's about all I could do to keep my breakfast down at this point.

Reasonable / Obscene - Reasonable / Obscene

While some folks may think A.N.S.W.E.R.'s only concern is with our military involvement in Iraq, it's quite evident that is NOT all that's on their agenda.

Reasonable / Obscene - Reasonable / Obscene

Check out the Palestinian flags here.  The one on the right supports a free Palestine.  Note the photo on the right.  Here's one more issue on the agenda.

Reasonable / Obscene - Reasonable / Obscene

Yes A.N.S.W.E.R. is an international organization.  Here's the back of a sign that I flipped horizontally for presentation here.

Reasonable / Obscene

I'll be posting a few videos a little further down in this thread.  Check back in.

Folks, this was a great represenation of support for Bush.  I spent most of the afternoon mingling with supporters of the left, so that I could take
some photographs of our group from across the street.  The reaction to our group was a pleasure to hear.

A number of times the leftists near me reacted with "No Way!", upon seeing our signs and hearing our chants.  Inside I was chuckling to myself.
Others discussed the idea of conservatives being out there.  Of course the usual comments by leftists were made.  I don't have to repeat them here.

There were some debates between competing concerns out there.  One leftist that was particularly loud and upset, was a hoot to watch.
Surprisingly, of the group that congregated around him, just about everyone laughed at him rather than supported him.  Tourists from Asia
seemed to be facinated by the street drama.  They were also quite happy to offer up a smile and a wink at the rediculous stance of this leftist.

I'll make some additional comments down the thread.  I'd like to get this up.

Did I mention that RonDog deserves a lot of credit and congratulations on a job well done for today's showing?
Way to go RonDog!

What is that guy doing?

I think he is mocking 9/11 NYC Firefighters (coming out of the rubble) as an artistic statement...Or he is dying of AIDS, one or the other.

It looked there was a great shot of Freeper cinnamon girl on this Sunday morning's KNBC-TV Channel 4 News coverage of Hollywood & Highland yesterday.

Great Interview also with a Freeper who was there in support of his brother's now fighting in Iraq.

Lot's of proudly waving American Flags, too.

Thank you Reporter TED CHEN & KNBC-TV News.

Video - 6.2 mb "U - S - A"
Video - 4.5 mb "U - S - A"
Video - 3.7 mb "Four More Years"

Those chants were led by TED HAYES, who really knows how to get into the media. :o)

See also, from the Associated Press:

Many of the demonstrations were accompanied by smaller gatherings of Bush supporters. In Los Angeles, marchers passed by several dozen people who lined one Hollywood block, waving flags and chanting "Four more years."

"We believe in George Bush. We believe in what he's doing," said Gary Beck, 48, who was visiting from Tampa, Fla.

Compare OUR message (above) with THEIR message (below) from the Associated Press:

IRAQ WAR ANNIVERSARY
Voices of protest heard around world

Huge rallies in almost every major city oppose the Iraqi occupation

Verena Dobnik
The Associated Press

March 21, 2004

NEW YORK -- Hundreds of thousands of people around the world rallied against the U.S. presence in Iraq on the first anniversary of the war Saturday, in protests that retained the anger, if not the size, of demonstrations held before the invasion began.

Protesters filled more than a dozen police-lined blocks in Manhattan, calling on President Bush to bring home U.S. troops serving in Iraq. Mayor Michael Bloomberg estimated the crowd at about 30,000, but organizers said later that number had grown to more than 100,000.

"It is time to bring our children home and declare this war was unnecessary," said the Rev. Herbert Daughtry, a New York activist addressing a rally in Manhattan.

The roughly 250 anti-war protests scheduled around the country by United for Peace and Justice ranged from solemn to brash.

In Montpelier, Vt., hundreds of silent protesters placed a pair of shoes on the Statehouse steps for each of the more than 560 U.S. soldiers killed in the war.

In Los Angeles, one of about 2,000 protesters held photographs of Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney with the words, "forget Janet Jackson's -- expose the real boobs..."

Looks like WE won this round. :o)
I am, of course, biased...
...but in reviewing the coverage a story about MULTIPLE events all over the world, where no single event can get much attention...
...it appears that OUR one hundred fifty protesters in Los Angeles were MORE EFFECTIVE in communicating our message in the media than were THEIR two thousand.

I am somewhat confused. Maybe a democrat anti-war protester or ANSWER can address this question? Why are you not demonstrating against having our troops in Bosnia and Kosovo? Where were any of you when Clinton sent our troops there?

I really would like to know in coherent, intelligent words exempting all foul language please.

Thanks for the report, ALOHA RONNIE!
It couldn't have been CG on TV, though, since this rally was held on her Shabbat...
...but there were two OTHER attractive, articulate conservative blondes at our rally, Deborah Courtney and Lauren Schmitt.
Was it one of THESE two?

It felt really dang good to finally break in. I was sure ANSWER went nuts over it, and they did. One goon tried to get an office to get me, but the officer just stood there and did nothin'. It was a great moment. =/\= Sgt. Major Ethan Musulin Leader of the Torrance PW Chapter =/\= (the really tall guy)

Hi, ethanmx2!
WELCOME to Free Republic!
As I told many of the Protest Warriors yesterday, what you guys did was AMAZING...
...particularly for your FIRST TIME out!
I would like to personally apologize to both the Protest Warriors - and to the LAPD, though, for MIS-informing you about the proper dimensions for "legal" sticks to hold your signs.
When we met with Captain Mike Downing (Hollywood Division, LAPD) on the Friday before the event, I asked him what the rules were...
.. and I **thought** that he said two inches by 3/4" -
which is what I told you guys, and which is what you guys attached to your signs.
Here at Free Republic, we are proud of our LONG, and exemplary record of working VERY effectively with the police departments in jurisdictions all across the country where we protest, and I would not want to do ANYTHING which could jeopardize that professional, relationship.
Police oficers have a job to do which is as important as the one that our men and woemn in the Armed Forces are doing overseas, and we DEPEND on them to protect us from the (often NASTY) opposition which generally out-number us by ten- or ONE HUNDRED-to-one).
"Ignorance of the law" is NO EXCUSE, and HERE is the law from the Beverly Hills Police Department website:
Wood or Wood Products. It is unlawful to carry or possess any length of lumber, wood or wood lath greater than one foot in length, unless the wood object is blunted at its ends, is 1/4 inch or less in thickness and 2 inches or less in width, or if not generally rectangular in shape, does not exceed 3/4 inch at its thickest dimension. [BHMC Section 4-3.209(a)]
You COULD have been arrested for carrying those sticks, and I was wrong, and am sorry.
NEXT time, we will do better.

I have been asked by a group of politically active "not-yet-FReepers" (at my local NRA chapter) to explain to them (in forty-five minutes or less) how to use this extraordinary forum.

They would like for me to tell them:
What (exactly) **is** Free Republic?
How does it work?
Why can it do for ME?
