I think Kerry will surprise everyone, with his choice of running mate. I am thinking of 4 possibilities.
One possibility may be Max Cleland. Cleland's advantages are that he served in Vietnam, and he is from the South. It will be portrayed as an all-hero ticket, with geographical balance. There is also the victimology issue. Democrats have had great success in portraying Cleland as having been smeared by the mean, ugly, nasty, cruel, hateful and sadistic Republicans, in his 2002 re-election effort. Nominating Cleland as his running mate, will help Kerry remind voters, especially soccer mums, how mean, ugly, nasty, cruel, hateful and sadistic the Republicans are.
The other possibility may be Sen. Robert Byrd, who would help Kerry carry West Virginia, which Democrats lost last time to President Bush.
Pat "Osama Mama" Murray of Washington State is another possibility, which may be done in the name of women's rights, and enable Kerry to match Mondale's gender equality move of 1984.
Kerry might also need an experienced and well-rounded candidate like Jerold Nadler of New York, who is, well....round.
The Rat who pulls the shortest straw.
Not likely.
Kerry isn't secure enough to chose someone better looking and more facile than he is. Edwards would be a media darling and make him look like a clown
Besides, Edwards won't be interested in second place on a losing ticket. I think he is planning on watching Kerry lose and then spending the next 4 years on the rubber chicken circuit raising money for other Dems and building a grass roots operation. Then in '08 he will try to beat Hitlery for the nomination.

No it doesn't. The requirements for VP are the same as for President.
Harold Ford won't be 35 by January 20, 2005.
The whole McCain flirtation is a Karl Rove operation.
1. McCain was paid off by having his pet issue (steroid abuse) put in the State of the Union speech.
No other way to explain its inclusion.
2. McCain is chairman of the Bush Camaign in Arizona.
If he were seriously considereing crossing over, he would have been bounced out of there before he could do any more harm.
3. No way his ego would fit into a VP slot.
4. He has far more power as a senior Senator than he would ever have as a VP.
a. The republican senate leaders would strip him of all comittee assignments if he accepted.
b. He knows Kerry is a loser.
c. He knows he is too old to succeed Kerry in '12.
5. No way Kerry would ever pick anyone that much more popular with the press than he is.
.
After McCain spends a few months flirting with Kerry, the press and public are gonna be unhappy with whoever Kerry picks. They just won't measure up to old John.
That's the plan, to make the Kerry/? ticket start out being compared to the hypothetical Kerry/McCain ticket and looking sick.

Heh, heh. It would be amusing, but I can think of two things that disqualify her as a candidate. I don't think she's a natural born citizen and she and the Botox Kid are both from Massachusetts.
Setting aside his road trip with Lewinsky, Richardson was also in charge of the national labs when the Los Alamos "missing hard drives" caper was discovered. About a month prior to that, when national lab security (and Wen Ho Lee) became an issue, Richardson very publicly declared that he was on top of things and that there would not be any more lab incidents on his watch. Then the missing hard drives (that are supposed to be locked in a secure vault) turn up hidden behind a photo copier. This was all happening against the backdrop of the Los Alamos Forest fire.

Yes but he's a Democrat. The media will give him a free ride so all of that sort of stuff will not matter. They will be so busy blathering on about his being black, they won't have time for anything else. And there is no way the Republicans will risk criticizing him. The only problem I see is that he doesn't look black.
Clearly he's ambitious, because he ran against Pelosi.
