Yes, BBC saying the same. Not killed, injured, but in hospital after an apparent attack.

If done by PRC agents, it's the logical precursor to invasion.

Any word on how serious his condition?

They have elections coming up I think?

Yes! In just a matter of hours!

This sounds so much like what just happened in Spain.

If he dies, this will cause a lot of problems over there.

And for us too

Looks like it's going to be a lousy weekend with more terrorist bombings, terrorist sympathizers marching for "peace", and assassination.

PRC doesn't have the capability to invade Taiwan.

Commercial airliners, once small bodies of advance troops have secured an airfield or two.

We're in a tough time right now.

It will likely get a lot worse before it gets better. These are the good old days.

Lawmaker: Taiwanese president shot in stomach while campaigning

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) -- Taiwanese leader Chen Shui-bian was shot in the stomach Friday while campaigning on last day of the presidential election, a lawmaker traveling with the president said.

"The president suffered a deep wound about three centimeters (1.2 inches) deep in the stomach," lawmaker Wang Hsing-nan told TVBS cable news.

Wang said he was traveling in a car behind Chen's motorcade as it drove through the streets campaigning in the southern city of Tainan.

"I was traveling in the vehicle behind the president when I suddenly saw his car accelerating," said Wang, a member of Chen's Democratic Progressive Party.

The Presidential Office said that it did not have enough information to discuss the incident.

TVBS cable news showed the convertible the president was riding in parked outside a Tainan hospital.
