I have been a registered Democrat all my life. My family are from Arkansas via Tennessee, Kentucky and Virgina. My ancestors fought against Lincoln in the Civil War and the entire family has been Democrat ever since. But prior to that ... fought in the Revolutionary war. I believe in God and bear allegiance to America, liberty, freedom, and the Constitution of the United States of America - not some political party. And so for the last time I'm gonna tell you, this website is for the Constitution, not your bloodsucking party. In other words, kwitchyurbellyakin or bailthehellout!

Not so. Family in American English is singular. In the British form, are, is used, just as the British version would use, are, when speaking of a sports team, e.g. the team are keen to play.

Not so. Family in American English is singular. Careful. You'll chance slicing your finger while attempting to split such a fine hair.

Not at all. Proper usage is proper usage. Would you say the same thing about; tyre for tire, gaol for jail, queue for line as in line up, boot instead of trunk as in car trunk, lift instead of elevator. The first floor in a British building is what we call the second floor.
It is endless.

Proper usage is proper usage. I suppose you're right.
I work closely with a lot of folks from Great Britain so I tend to "mix it up" a lot verbally.
Sometimes the Mother tongue takes a beating.
Cheers.

What is this?
I take a day off and the trolls come out of the woodwork?!
*snort*
So far every day I've been away from the keyboard they've been all over, it's almost as if they keep tabs on who will flame them and who won't.
