Not at all. Proper usage is proper usage. Would you say the same thing about; tyre for tire, gaol for jail, queue for line as in line up, boot instead of trunk as in car trunk, lift instead of elevator. The first floor in a British building is what we call the second floor.
It is endless.

I suppose you're right.

I work closely with a lot of folks from Great Britain so I tend to "mix it up" a lot verbally.

Sometimes the Mother tongue takes a beating.
