Mel Gibson's not turning against Bush supporters. He's expressing a common trepidation. I also don't care much for Bush for many reasons, but I like Kerry even less. The economy really sucks (can't get a decent-paying job with vast experience and an honors ivy-league degree), and the weapons of mass destruction are hidden behind my ex-boyfriend's (please forgive the language) "testicles," that is, according to my ex himself. Soooorrryyy.

The Iraqi Commanders in the field all thought that the Commanders on their right and left flanks had WMD.

Saddam Hussein was sure he had WMD.

So was every analyst and every government in the world.

How could any American President know any different?

The question is not a political one, it is a practical one. To wit, where are the stockpiles of nerve agent, mustard gas and bio crap?

THat is the question that nobdy has anwered yet and should give us pause, not the "Bush lied" BS.

I find the statements on this thread to be interesting to say the least. Apparently it's 'okay' to be Christian, that is if you support the President. Otherwise you could be open game.

You're part of the "club" as long as you march in lockstep, but Heaven help those who can think and voice their personal opinion. Nothing new here, look at those that crawled Chief Justice Roy S. Moore.

He was 10! ... and the sins of the Father shall fall on the son eh?

No, but he produced We Were Soldiers which was a very pro US, Vietnam War movie. While Mel Gibson would have been too young to have been drafted for the Vietnam War, some of his brothers weren't.

Told you JW, I'm not selling anything, my primary purpose for being here is to try and get a better understanding of the delusion mindset of your average fundamentalist.

Ah so you're selling some brand of secular humanism with a pinch of bigotry?

Like I said, everybody is selling something, some are even honest about it.

In any case, I'm not buying try somebody else.

Ahh - this no dissention will be the undoing of the republicans. A party-over-principles mentality ultimately robs the party of any reason for exsistence, and leads to its demise.

Scalia and Thomas agree: The CFR bill that GW Bush signed into law is an abomination.

I'm waiting to hear more about this from Gibson himself, but I really would hope he doesn't suffer from a short term selective memory like many of his fellow colleagues in Hollywood.

And you want that better understanding so you can peddle your oppressive Marxism more effectively.

There may be a "perception" that Gibson just fleeced Bush supporters and the religious right and now he's got to market to the liberals-lefties. Someone else made that point up yonder on this thread.

at least three members of Skull and Bones, the secret society that Bush belonged to while at Yale....I have plenty of doubts

Then vote for Kerry, he'll deny belonging to Skull and Bones with a straight face, and likely won't release the names of his sleepovers.

The only REASON that hasn't been given for going to war with IRAQ is IMHO the BEST. Iraq constinuously and consistantly VIOLATED the ARTICLES of SURRENDER from GULF WAR 1 and a RESUMPTION of HOSTILITIES by the United States was MANDATORY to make them comply with THEIR UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER TERMS.

Technically it was a cease fire not a surrender, but your point is valid and I argued that point many times over the past year both in conversations and on Free Republic. It was rather unfortunate that it was not in fact an unconditional surrender. If it had been, Saddam would have been either in prison or dead since 1991. What the Iraqis signed was a conditional cease fire. They violated the conditions, so you are correct, the United States was obligated to resume hostilities.

"But, I think it's just Hannity hyping his tv and/or radio show. I just transcribed what he just said on the radio about Mel Gibson. I don't listen to Hannity a lot. I THINK I WILL TURN ON HIM TOO."

My thoughts exactly. I hardly ever listen to Hannity these days.

Hmmm... last time I checked neither of those statements was in the GOP platform.

My point is obvious to anyone who still thinks - hewing to any particular party line does little to make one a good Christian or a bad one. And the reason for the point is just as obvious - I find it more than a little offensive that you, and your ilk, will plainly state that my grandmother - who worked the line in a textile plant her entire adult life, and who consistently voted Democrat like most others in her station - was not a good Christian because of her politics.

I don't recall Afghanistan having any weapons of mass destruction and they did one hell of a job on us. If these governments have the desire to kill us, they will eventually find success. The lack of WMD is a weak argument for the left. It will no longer be an issue when they are successful again.

I don't think Gibson should move to Spain but I do think if his next movie would be about American sympathies in the Spanish Revolution of the thirties,he might do a great service to some citizens here.

I can visualize some great takes of Hemingway and the literati sitting in bars in Spain, wholeheartedly supporting the communists as they sought yet again to silence forever the throne and the tiara.

To assume that everything this country has done, whenever they did it should be erased from memory because we have a new "cause" is simplistic and does not give recognition to the fact that people and nations may have varying thoughts that reflect on their actions today.

Tht goes for Gibson as well as Spain.

Considering this came from Drudge, I'll withhold comment.

Exactly. I suspect that Drudge has always been quietly antiwar himself, and is reading this very thread laughing his @ss off at all the Bushbots suddenly making controversy about his "scoop".

Maureen Dowd had "scoops" taking quotes out of context. What the bots should be thinking isn't whether Gibson is a good conservative, but whether he's a good Christian, and someone who questions Bush about the WMD is certainly being a consistent Christian.

This is divisive and doesn't change my opinion of Gibson or the movie.
