Thank goodness something like this can't happen here - John F. Kerry is going to end the war against terrorism and negotiate with the terrorists.

Kerry didn't say he would negotiate with the terrorists - in his recent CFR speech he said he would actually APOLOGIZE to the terrorists and those leaders who harbor them.

"What a terrible tragedy."

A tragedy is when a tornado blows away a city.

This is an 'atrocity', a war crime like 9/11.

Hey, all of Shakespeare's tragedies were man-made.

But I'm willing to say it is an atrocity too. (Though I think only our side can commit atrocities, to hear Kerry tell it.)

God In Heaven, I despise the very existence of the demented animals that could do something like this to innocent human beings, and would merrily remove them from Planet Earth - bare-handed, if necessary - with absolutely no remorse whatsoever.

If there is, it doesn't appear to be appreciable. Though I'm sure the slang between the two has experienced significant drift by now.

I concur, big time. These terrorists use the tools of warfare against non-combatants, hoping that eventually the bloodshed will be great enough to leverage politically what they cannot win in a stand-up fight. I spit on them.

They keep begging to be exterminated; let's accomodate them. I keep thinking of Hal Moore's prayer in We Were Soldiers:

Our Father in Heaven, before we go into battle every soldier among us will approach you each in his own way. Our enemies too, according to their own understanding will ask for protection and for victory. And so, we bow before your infinite wisdom. We offer our prayers as best we can. I pray you watch over the young men...that I lead into battle. You use me as your instrument in this awful hell of war...to watch over them. Especially if they're men like this beside me, deserving of a future in your blessing and good will. Amen.

Oh. Yes, and one more thing, dear Lord...about our enemies--ignore their heathen prayers, and helps us blow those little bastards straight to hell. Amen again.

Amen, indeed.

I googled up a couple of on-line translators, plugged in the phrase, and this is what they spit out.

BabbleFish:

"la amenaza de terrorismo ha sido exagerada"

Prompt-Online:

"la amenaza del terrorismo se ha exagerado"

So it looks like you're both right. Interesting that two versions would come up. I guess there's some leeway in how our "has X'ed" tense can be constructed in Spanish.

I picked up a little Spanish from a landscaping job I had a few years back. I can be fairly conversational, but only in the present tense, and only if the conversation revolves around shrubs and mulch and that sort of thing.
