More Insistence on Closeness of Race
MSNBC ^

For a politically polarized nation, a campaign pitting President Bush against Sen. John F. Kerry presents the starkest of choices and almost certainly a close election.

Ridiculous, everybody and his grandmother knows that Kerry will start having to stand for something if the race will be close. A Democrat winning among Democrats is not a "surge", and only ten percent or so of voters made the showing for him anyway. Talk him up, media, talk him up... it may be his only chance.

You said it.
A wartime President presiding over a healthy growing economy vs a droll, wishy washy, pompous, liberal Senator from Massachusetts? I have 3 words for the Democrats, and I know they understand them:
BRING ... IT ... ON!

They make the point that Kerry carried 59 of 72 counties in Wisconsin. In 2000, 46 counties went for Bush...Kerry may have carried counties in the primary that he will lose in November. Of course Gore took the electoral votes in 2000, but the winning margin may have been provided by fraudulent votes (multiple voting by college students, etc.).

As Rush said today, paraphrased: "Yes, I think we'll see an unprecedented turnout: people coming back from the dead to vote, people voting two or three times, non-existent people voting..."

For better or for worse, this election won't be a close one. Presidential re-elections never are and this one won't be any different regardless of polls out now. Bush has a solid job approval and would likely beat Kerry by about 3-4 points if the dynamics of the race stay the same throughout the year. That translates into a very comfortable electoral college victory.

That piece is written by David Brodeur. Hardly qualifies as news. Definitely liberal loser opinion though.

Speculating on how close the race is going to be, 8 months before the election, and six months before the intense part of the campaign even starts, is foolish in the extreme.
At this point, it is impossible to project much of anything. The apparent issues of today may not be those of the fall. And we certainly do not know what alternatives may be available.

Wow! Kerry won 59 counties in a DEMOCRAT PRIMARY! That's simply amazing, and just how does that relate to the election when there will be REPUBLICANS and Bush Democrats voting?

"Yes, I think we'll see an unprecedented turnout: people coming back from the dead to vote, people voting two or three times, non-existent people voting..." Those who vote decide nothing. Those who count votes decide everything.
With electronic computer voting coming into play, the future may lie with the Party with the best hackers.

Kerry couldn't even match Bush in the Primary. Bush took ALL 72 Counties in The Rep primary, Kerry could only take 59 of 72 in the Dem. <P. See, we can play the stats game too ;-)

this race wont be close at all, Bush will get a LANDSLIDE over Kerry the Kommunist!
I heard this on this forum a thousand times about Bush/Gore and it turned out not to be true. We should perhaps take Kerry more seriously than we did Gore.

And considering the age, outlook and social strata common to computer and information criminals, I think the balance does not look favorable for America.

In 2000 Gore should have won considering the situation he found himself in.
A Democrat who could have campaigned as a "moderate", not tarred...by the media at least...with Clinton's scandals, VP over, what seemed at the time, a healthy economy with no serious foreign threats.
Basically, he should have done better then Bush 41 did in 1988.
If Gore couldn't win in 2000 with a host of benefits, the far more left wing and less charismatic Kerry has no hope. I predict Bush in a romp.
To: swilhelm73
I'll make no predictions... I only chafe at the media's constant pro-dem and dem-hopeful predictions, even though they know the outlook isn't good for the Dem party. They just want to swing a few votes... make the lazy democrats (I think there might be a few...) get a little motivated. In any case, I've never seen a pro-repub prediction, even during the 80s.

I'm gun shy. I heard the same sort of arguments on this forum re: Gore. The majority on this forum pooh-poohed and ridiculed any suggestion that it was going to be a close race. Kerry ought to be taken very seriously.
