A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Today is "National Anthem Day"

The Star-Spangled Banner

***********************

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight'
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming.
And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen, thro' the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream;
'Tis the star-spangled banner: oh, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footstep's pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Oh, thus be it ever when free men shall stand,
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Power that has made and preserved us as a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust";
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Tune: Anacreon in Heaven

Written by Francis Scott Key on September 14th,1814.

3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit.
4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it.
5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me a FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

Hmmm.....very interesting, dansy. Yesterday Billie posts the words to the National Anthem (with typo), obviously knowing that it would be your topic today. A blatant attempt to take the luster out of your presentation. No doubt you are greatly distressed by this. I know I am.....

Oh, you. :)

Actually, I used a toned-down red hue and that's the way it looks on my monitor at home as well as here at work on a new Dell. Anyone else see "bright" red?

Oh yes, it's a nice deep/complex red. I'd still call it "bright" but it's very pleasing and I see the blue undertones. It's very nice.

Good morning, Johnny Mac - Dansy does indeed deserve an AttaGirl - not only for today's beautiful and inspiring post, but because today was originally to be Dutchess' day to post, and Dansy traded with her at the last minute to give her (dutchess) some time to catch her breath.

Dutchess' schedule has been overwhelming lately - but hopefully it will let up very soon. (Sure hate that your candidate lost - and by such a small margin. :( I know how hard you worked on the campaign.)

Thank you ma'am. I worry about my combination sometimes, but I always have .45MAN (who is my resident artist) to critique before posting.

'Tis a Star-Spangled day with Old Glory posted in her place of honor.

From the day Francis Scott Key penned the verse, through each day that passes, our National Anthem brings forth a sense of pride and patriotism.

As a lad, on those rare occasions when I was awake to see the 'sign-off' on our television stations around the midnight hour, we knew what to do - stand while the anthem played. With visions of the US Air Force planes flying through the skies, or US Navy ships and planes sailed and flew with the Bands of the respective services provided the music.

To this day, hearing our National Anthem, brings tears to the eye followed by a quiet 'Amen' at the conclusion.

...o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave. amen.

Tis a puzzle to the libs why we feel the way we do.

There's somehing unnerving about seeing time running backwards...although if it brought returned youth with it, that might not be so bad!

That is such a beautiful testimony ((((((diver dave))))))

[sigh] I'm old enough to remember stations going off the air each night. I find it very touching that you showed your respect for the song and the flag by standing.

*Amen* indeed!

Tis a puzzle to the libs why we feel the way we do.

*ROFL!*

It seems as though *every* day is a bad day to the resident curmudgeon.

Or, perhaps it's only a bad day when he has absolutely *nothing* to complain about!
